The Amazing Spider-Man is as well, I'd like to know what difference there will be between the two (and why we didn't get it the first time if it's better). I'm all for improving the earlier releases but there shouldn't be any difference with new movies.

Edit: Spider-Man is 35GB's so I guess if they fill the disc it might look better!

The yellow & blue banners that say "Mastered in 4K", "Maximum Picture Expanded Color" & "Optimized for 4K Ultra HD TVs" were not part of the Original poster. lol

And in 12-18 months they'll release another version of all these movies that say "Ultra-super optimized, extra, extra, ultra expanded color, super 4k version 2. Optimized for ultra-super, genetically mutated 4k displays". This crap just never ends!

Thanks for holding back the insults. I wasn't being combative. I am looking forward to full 4K. The words Expanded Color did strike me as a marketing gimmick. You know, here's the next best thing until the really next best thing arrives. I have no problem buying new 4K remasters but I'll stick with whatever 1080p versions I have already bought until I upgrade to a 4K display and Blu-ray player.

If Universal decides to join the Mastered in 4K band wagon, I wouldn't mind if it means including the brand new 4K transfer they used for the 3D version, which looks blippin amazing. (For more pictures look here).

Jeez, is it really that hard to understand? Most of us are well aware that this is a Superbit style gimmick on Sony's part, and that these will not be in 4K, but new scans at that resolution ought to be worth a look no matter what, and at least three of these titles are going to offer that.

Also, in regards to Expanded Color, here's that blog from the Groundhog Day cinematographer, in which he mentions the control EC allows him (and that Sony is doing new scans): http://www.theasc.com/blog/2013/01/1...1912-part-two/

I saw Jurassic Park 3D in IMAX and I thought it looked very good, although I am taken aback by his use of the word "grainless" as a positive.

It's actually my "use" you're talking about lol. But fan to fan here, I'm a grain purist too. Heck I'm the one that even said "I can't wait for the 3D but man the grain will be gone ". Honestly looking back at the 2011 transfer, it now feels dated. It's like looking through a window with tiny specs of visible dirt. It sometimes even feels like I'm actually watching the 35 mm film rolling. In the new transfer, all that is wiped clean but not in the way you forget you're watching a 24fps movie. And as you've said, it looked very good. It now feels like a step closer in being immersed into the world of Jurassic Park. And I say that without the 3D, especially when looking at the shots at that link you went to. Gone are the edge enhancements! I'm probably sounding hypocritical by now but I feel that it really works with JP.

I actually felt like I was seeing grain in the new transfer, although it's much harder to gauge that when you're watching something in 3D.

I don't understand the resistance to these releases at all. Yes, some of them are simply repackagings, and yes, Sony's cover art could be a lot better, but it's not like, Ghostbusters, for example, couldn't conceivably be a noticeable upgrade, and it isn't as though Sony doesn't have a tom of catalogue that they could remaster in 4K for these Blu-ray releases if the line sells well. For me, anything that gets Sony doing more 4K scans of catalogue and putting them out on Blu-ray is worth it, and I will certainly pick up any debuts and any re-releases that are better than the original BDs.

correct ... however we're all not quite sure what that mean in terms of supplemental material - if they'll get ported or not, if it is in fact 'superbit-esque', than it will be the movie only.

Remastering movies that need to be remastered? Fantastic.

Slapping logos and stickers on transfers that weren't/don't need to be retouched (such as recent big-budget tentpoles)? Fail.
