You mean the quadrilogy in this case?

If anything, I would've liked to see the Russos have a chance with Part I, then hand it back to Whedon to finish off the franchise.

4 is the new 3

Trilogies haven't been just 3 movies for a long time now.

you can thank harry potter for giving studios the bright idea to split the last movie in two

Marvel's Avengers Epic, From Directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Marks First-Ever Hollywood Features to be Captured Wholly Using IMAX® Cameras

LOS ANGELES, May 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of the colossal domestic opening of Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel, the Russo brothers and IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) today announced that Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, the two-part installment to the global blockbuster franchise, will be shot in their entirety using IMAX® and ARRI's next generation revolutionary 2D digital camera – a joint customized digital version of ARRI's new large format camera, the Alexa 65. The two-part Avengers saga marks the first time a Hollywood feature film will have been shot completely using IMAX® cameras and will feature IMAX's exclusive aspect ratio, providing moviegoers a uniquely immersive experience.

Prior to filming Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2, Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will use the IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera for select action sequences on the forthcoming Marvel's Captain America: Civil War, which will release in IMAX® theatres in May of 2016.

Joe and Anthony Russo stated, "The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera."

To clear things up, they're using the new 2D IMAX digital camera's they're using for 15 minutes of Civil War. Transformers looked pretty impressive with the 3D digital camera, so I'm pretty excited for this, converted or not.

Sadly I'll be avoiding this in Imax after having watched AoU. Not necessarily because of subpar 3D but all the Imax theaters in my area are Liemax. The screen is way smaller than it should be so I wouldn't even get the full effect.

I actually prefer liemax over true Imax for regular movies, obviously not for proper IMAX documentaries and such.

A real IMAX screen just has too much real estate, and the aspect ratio feels unnatural and less "cinematic" to me.

The slightly larger than usual specialty screens, like Cinemark XD or my local theater's "Evolution" auditoriums however are by far my favorite way to watch a movie.

Considering you enjoy Imax documentaries on a full size Imax screen, the fact that they're shooting both movies in their entirey with this new Imax camera, the entire movie will fit the entire screen like those documentaries. There won't be any of that aspect ratio back and forth like with Nolan's Batman films since he was only able to film parts of it.

I doubt it. I like IMAX documentaries, like the ones they play at museum IMAX theaters, because they're not movies.

Maybe I'm just over-conditioned to watching movies in a wide-screen format. When I think "movie" I think 2.39:1, scope, or 1.85:1, wide. Anything taller than 1.85:1 just starts to lose appeal to me.

Awesome news on the Imax front! If they're filming 2D though I hope most Imax theaters provide a 2D viewing option.

I bet this burns ole Nolan a little

I'm the same way, I have to admit I was a little disappointed that Whedon's Avengers was flat 1.85:1, glad Ultron was scope though.

Very, very curious to see how the resolution of these new 2D digital IMAX cameras stack up against the IMAX film cameras.
