The George Bush analogy may not have been the best to use here. What he said was "Read my lips, No new taxes" That didn't work out too well for him since he did have to raise taxes. ![]() As for Cameron; there is no question that he will be involved in 3D conversions of any of his properties. He is without question, one of the prime movers in the latest 3D era. But, don't you think he would agree that for 3D to succeed in the home market, the adoption rate must increase? As a result, he has a vested interest in the success of this Fox/JVC venture. I wouldn't be surprised if he was involved with the effort as a consultant. Lionsgate is using Samsung's tech, which apparently is just as bad as JVC's. Disney as noted, is already done with this, and WB shows no urge to do much conversion of catalog, beside Harry Potter and the urge to annoy Christopher Nolan and try and convert Inception against his wishes. I'd point out Universal, but let's face it, just getting proper HD masters is a challenge for them. Quote:
James Cameron doesn't even care about the current 3D standard since he and Pace are trying to push another proprietary 3D tech at 60fps, while the 48fps format has fallen completely on it's face, and will never be used again for a major theatrical production. (And who the hell knows what decade we will actually see Avatar 2 or 3...) Then there's the CE industry that has moved on from 3D and is more concerned about 4K at this point, since there's no extra returns for 3D tech. fitprod |

The Reason? The resolution of 4K could make glasses-free 3D a genuine possibility. The extra pixels provide a way of delivering the 3D experience without specialist glasses by being able to show two stereoscopic pictures at once and doing clever things with lenticular lenses to show them to each eye (although this means the resulting picture is only 1080p resolution)." http://aframe.com/blog/2013/06/13/do...-of-3d-glasses "The problem with this whole theory is there is no secondary market for 3D, besides Blu-ray, and in-theory, streaming. - 3D broadcast channels are bleeding money, and will probably all be gone by the end of 2014." In theory streaming? VUDU has nearly 100 3D movies streaming and Netflix is not far behind. There are even a few Ultraviolet offerings ( the latest Resident Evil for example) This is the market Fox/JVC wants to supply with these low cost catalog conversions. http://www.vudu.com/movies/#featured...-Films-on-VUDU Last edited by raygendreau; 07-21-2013 at 02:32 AM. |

Actually, Cameron is more concerned about studios forcing some directors to use 3D when it isn't warranted (Iron Man 3, Man of Steel):

I saw this predator head and the adamantium wolverine claw collection listed for 89.99 each! on ebay by a guy who was selling a lot of comic-con exclusive merchandise-and he had great rep as well-but unless its an authorized reseller I'd rather not go through any possible hassle on a preorder so I went with foxconnect |
