DANGEROUS MEN - Finally watched this today after hearing about it for years and was completely underwhelmed. Ya, it's atrociously inept in practically ever way (acting, editing, music, script) and I know Rad took decades to finish it and I can enjoy "bad" movies in that bad-movie way, but after about 20 minutes, I just started to get really bored with it all. Some amusingly bad moments early on, but then the tedium really sets in and it was a struggle to finish it, even at only 80 minutes long. Anyone really love "Dangerous Men"? I can't imagine even seeing this with a full audience at a midnight showing would make me appreciate its dull ineptness any differently.

I enjoyed it. Blind buy. Watched once, will watch again someday. Not for everyone.

I haven't seen Dangerous Men but a buddy and I did a double feature of Miami Connection and The Visitor today.
We both really enjoyed Miami Connection. A lot of fun with a fantastic score and many laugh out loud moments. The Visitor was more of a chore to get through. Great score as well but it seems you see everything great in the 2 1/2 minute trailer. No need to watch the film and nowhere near as "so bad it is good" or "insane" as I had read. |

"While League continues to manage the Drafthouse brand, his Drafthouse Films label is no longer acquiring titles and the existing team has set its sights on the newer venture." http://www.indiewire.com/2017/03/a24...on-1201791026/ Kind of a bummer IMO because while i'd be happy for Tim and his peeps if Neon takes off like A24 and makes more money, DHF was a more brash outfit and shone the light on more challenging fare. Money talks... |

Just answered my own question.
Ordered: Trailer War Ms. 45 I Declare War Miami Connection The seemingly out of print nature of these have me a little worried... Compounded by the shift in label focus. Procrastinated for too long on these. Hopefully the $14 paid for shipping bumps it up from media mail...if it happens at all ![]() |

I was all excited to order some for $10, I placed 3 in my cart, went to check out and they want $14 shipping. No thanks. Media mail would be about $5 for 3 films, priority would be about $8. I've seen all the films I was going to order and decided I would pass.

Compared to other places I looked titles are 20 to 25 dollars some places. Also, if you're looking for A Band Called Death. That seems to be unavailable most other places. |

The way Colossal and Risk (which probably should have remained a TV movie) performed, Neon's aspirations of becoming the next A24 aren't looking too good. The company would have been better off not merging the two companies and just kept Drafthouse around as a sister label (of course, that would have likely cheapened the brand name for the theatre franchising).
In fact, you kind of have to wonder about this whole "next A24" or "next Netflix" or "next Amazon" being a good for the industry. Broad Green tried it with a buying spree similar to Neon's and now they're in financial straits, Gunpowder & Sky bought a company and made a splash at Sundance but they've been quiet outside of that "sporror" idea which sounds like something Alchemy would have come up with, Apple had buyers at Sundance but didn't pick up anything and have instead been talking about buying Disney, and Neon's material really doesn't seem exciting as it seems like things not good enough for A24 but better than Gravitas Ventures (whose old logo seemed to sum up how they acquire movies). Companies like STX, Bleecker Street, and Annapurna seem to have the right idea: get well-financed investors and have them work with movie people (in Annapurna's case, the investor with deep pockets is a film person), greenlight things too original for the studios, make strong output deals (STX has EuropaCorp, Bleecker Street has worked with several capable companies, Annapurna has MGM and Amazon), and just not care about needing to be the next big thing. While a lot of these companies will get bored after a while or go bust (see Relativity), I see the labels that are liberal in film choices and conservative in finances surviving. A24 doesn't seem to have the deep pockets but they are film people and their deal-making is very shrewd. As for Drafthouse/Neon, I'd rather they just stuck to film exhibition and foreign films and documentaries instead of being the latest company to get burned by the assumption that Aubrey Plaza can carry a film. |

It would've helped Colossal's chances if it had received any kind of marketing. I'm still not even sure it ever played in Canada anywhere. I've been eagerly anticipating the blu-ray release, as that's the only way I'm ever going to be able to watch it (and that goes for the vast majority of interested parties, I'm sure).
