I think that ship has already sailed, especially with Avi Lerner in charge. That's why I suggested another studio put these actors into a different movie.

A Liam Neeson, Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon, Donnie Yen movie would have to be it's own thing.
I see your point. I wonder how they'd respond if approached had it been part 2 instead of 4.

That's true. Statham. Arnold is still making a lot of movies despite his older age.

An action movie that turns out to be a good movie isn't unheard of. It happens sometimes in this new century. What they really need to do is get a competent scriptwriter and director to get this thing going. Sly should have been been that but he merely brought an average film. Simon West isn't any good nowadays. And the last one was a waste of time.

I get what they're trying to do but how about they actually try to push or do something very different and imaginative w/ the genre they play in?
It's likely they're thinking of each Expendables movie like "Hey guys, we got more trouble, we need the team together to take it out again." Simple but effective way to get them together for another mission.

But yeah, if they could make one of these on the level of Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, but with a focus on the action instead of espionage?

Or maybe like an X-Men movie but without the special powers?

What other ideas for the story of a fourth Expendables?
I'll be surprised if this gets made, but will see it if the cast is good.
I really want one last Rambo movie.

Cops and robbers would be a good one. A group of bank robbers lead by Jean-Claude Van Damme, cops led by Kurt Russell trying to bring them down. You'd be able to give everyone something to do, as opposed to being Stallone show.

What about a disaster movie with Dolph Lundgren, Wesley Snipes, Dwayne Johnson, etc. as a group of veteran firefighters?

Unfortunately it looks like there will never be another 80/90s action hero cast ensemble outside of nu image's productions. These films are more like Sly and extended cameos. Since Sly wrote and directed the first film he now has full control over what happens. I think he got a little power hungry in EX3 since he mostly hogged the limelight with the younger recruits. I have always wanted to see Arnie front line a cast ensemble since I think he would be more capable than Sly to get the right director and writers etc involved.

Expendables 4 Secures China Pre-Sale (EXCLUSIVE)

Quote:
Upcoming Nu Image / Millennium movies “Expendables 4” and “Security” are headed for China. That follows deals with Steven Paul’s SP International Pictures on behalf of SSXH Beijing and Max Screen Film Distribution.

The deals cover equity investments in both films and provide Chinese distribution rights. Both movies may use China as a location for some scenes, though it is not expected that there will be enough Chinese elements for them to be considered as full co-productions.

Action thriller, “Security” is now beginning production in Bulgaria at Nu Image studios. It will star Antonio Banderas (“The Mask of Zorro,” “Desperado”) and Ben Kingsley (“Gandhi,” “Schindler’s List”) under the direction of Alain Desrochers (“Nitro”). The budget is pegged at $15m.

“Expendables 4” will shoot in 2016 and be delivered in 2017. Neither director nor cast have yet been announced, though the picture is expected to have maintain its all-action star formula. It is to be produced on a budget of over $100 million.

The twin China deals involve a transaction in excess of $25 million. They were negotiated between Avi Lerner, Trevor Short and Jeffrey Greenstein for Nu Image and Steven Paul and SPIP on behalf of SSXH and Max Screen Beijing.

Dr. Shi Jianxiang, chairman of Shanghai Kuailu Investment Group, which owns SSXH and Max Screen, and Steven Paul (“Ghost Rider,” “Baby Geniuses,” “Tekken”) will be credited as executive producers on both pictures. Dr. Shi was part of Chinese president Xi Jinping’s recent delegation to the U.S.

The “Expendables” franchise films have proved some of the most successful independent pictures in the Chinese market. “Expendables 3” grossed $39.2 million in North America where it was handled by Lions Gate Films, but $78 million in China.

“What seems to work in their favour in China, is that these movies are good old-fashioned shoot ’em up entertainment,” Paul told Variety.

Paul’s SPI, which has a distribution arrangement with Sony Pictures, has become one of the most active Hollywood independent companies in China. In Cannes SPI announced deals Financing City and C2M from China on “High Speed” and the latest instalment in Paul’s “Tekken” franchise. In July SPI also announced a financial partnership in Thailand with Good Times Films and prominent Thai businessman Pimol Srivkorn (“Tekken: Kazuya’s Revenge.)

It's official now. Hopefully no young recruits, scaled down cast and back to the R rating.

EX4 should establish the Expendabelles. That is if the all-female flick is still being planned.

If nothing else, this should mean substantial screen time for Jet Li. Maybe this time he can fight the main bad guy instead of Stallone. His fights with Gibson and Van Damme lasted what, 2 minutes each?

Don't write a script based on what actors you can get for what amount of time. Cast whoever is fully available and actually give them something to do. If this means no Terry Crews because of his Brooklyn Nine Nine commitments, then no Terry Crews. The first movie was the Stallone and Statham show, but both sequels were the Stallone show.

Also, some of them have to get killed off on screen eventually. Three movies and only one death?

Unless Jet Li's health issues have cleared up, I doubt he will do much more than show his face.

Has every Expendables movie pretty much hammered the point home that every film was their "last advantage".

How many more "last adventures" are they going to have? heh

Why not just make it an Asian production and bring in Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Bolo Yeung, Sammo Hung, Michelle Yeoh, Tony Jaa, etc. That sure as hell would be better than what we got with the American films.

Arnie will be filming 478 very soon and Terminator isn't dead yet. Arnie brought up Conan last week saying they are tuning the script, which he has been saying for the past three years since he left office.

I don't think it is happening now, too many of the stars they asked turned it down.

This definitely has to be that Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Chan film project that was earlier reported.

I wonder if that was what was discussed when Arnold and Sly met for lunch a few weeks ago.

Yeah Arnie has been saying for a while now that Sly should write EX4 so he can star in it. It is easy money for Arnie because it is only a few days to a week filming and he gets a nice paycheck for the work. Hopefully he gets an expanded role with better dialogue. Also now "greedy" Willis can get on the action again since him and Sly have made up.

Is Avi still gonna be part of this? He was apparently the reason Seagal wouldn't do it. Would like to see Seagal as a main villain.

I wouldn't mind seeing The Rock. He's not 80s but he's certainly earned it.

Of course he is, him and Sly have a close business relationship. The Rock would never do an Expendables film. I expect Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Bruce Willis and maybe Nicolas Cage to appear in this one. Schwarzenegger, Crews, Couture and Lundgren are a given. Jet Li's health is pretty bad now so I don't expect to see much of him in this one. I also don't expect to see a huge cast since that was the reason Jackie Chan turned it down and since this will be set partially in China it makes more sense for Chan to have a big role in this one.
