Even though Frozen technically takes place in Summer, the snow and ice setting is more fitting with the Winter release.
I think the more action adventure type animated films like Despicable Me 2 fit better in with the Summer blockbusters. While a musical is more fitting for the Christmas season.
I think it's worked out well for Disney to release the Pixar films in the Summer and the WDAS films at the end of the year.

Just saw this again today, since my options for seeing it in 3D are dwindling. I canNOT wait to get this on 3D Blu, so here's hoping reports of its delay are greatly exaggerated.

Also, I tried imagining songs near the climax, both the intertwined quartet leading up to the big event, and the tender reprise of "Snowman," and both could have worked. The only things that might have gotten in the way of a hypothetical, dramatic quartet were the few lines of comedic relief from Olaf as
[Show spoiler]he and Anna escape out the window
. The build-up, crescendo, and abrupt halt would have been perfect, as the
[Show spoiler]soundtrack cuts out completely when Anna saves Elsa
, making a short reprise of "Snowman" feasible after a few moments of stunned silence.

The ending celebration also certainly lent itself to being able to support a more upbeat reprise of either "Snowman" or "Forever" (or both), had they chosen to do so.

Frozen was #1 this weekend, with $20.8 million!

That's the third highest sixth weekend total of ALL TIME, behind Avatar and Titanic!

Last weekend's total was enough to also claim the third-highest-grossing fifth weekend ever, also behind Avatar and Titanic. What's amazing this weekend is that Frozen managed to climb back up to #1 yet again.

Can it stay at #1? It's still in more theaters than any of next weekend's new films plan to open in. I was watching Bruce Wright's Twitter feed this weekend, and apparently it's still selling out in a lot of major areas.

I agree with most of this, but I have to disagree on Winnie the Pooh. I thought it was really good. Either way, I thought Frozen was spectacular. I wish I understood what's going on with the 3D blu-ray though. 8-/

More than likely, if it's a Wal*mart exclusive, they're getting paid enough to turn a profit on the disc before it goes into wide release.

Honestly, there's no guarantees of that if they do their normal release pattern, where they might sell 30,000 to 40,000 3D BD skus. (Disney's been really unhappy with the family 3D BD sales, especially the re-issues. Marvel stuff has done OK...)

I was especially confused because the Walmart product page was pulled down, too and now it is popping up at Best Buy. 8-/

I took my kids to see it for the first time this weekend and I was surprised at just how full the theatre was this far into the movie's release. It was very close to being sold out. We all loved the movie and I can't wait to own the blu ray.

It benefitted from families looking to see something while they are home for the holidays, and very little else out there for families. It has a shot at #1 again next weekend, though Lone Survivor is kind of a big question mark - Might take #1, might not. The next weekend, though, Jack Ryan is sure to open at #1, but Frozen will still do decent business. Nothing for families on the horizon until Lego Movie in late February, and then nothing else for families until March.

There's also the Nut.... Oh, wait. Nevermind. Nothing.

(Will Arnett and Liam Neeson are both in one of the best looking and worst looking animated features coming out this year.)

We just have to wait until next week when Disney announce the set, and provide complete bonus features for us to be disappointed.

Also, I just rewatched the film, but the first time in 3D. Gotta say, it's the kind of movie you forget that it's a 3D movie; the Disney short preceding this film does a better job implementing the using of the 3D technology. And darn me for missing the Tangled cameos...again! I know they were in the beginning of the film, but I forgot about that before it's too late.

Going to pick this up, looks like a great kid-friendly movie that my nephews will love.
