The only thing I know of is a response to a FB comment. Which was something like, "Are you announcing titles at Comic Con?" And they said yes. Nothing about it being part of October's lineup. Sounds more like just other announcements maybe November and December.

The entire reason a company would not announce a release date is because they're not ready to announce a release date. It's silly to get mad even when it's changed after an official announcement, but this is taking entitled fandom to a whole new level.
Well said. It's become quite obvious that some folks are going to blame SF for absolutely anything, logic be damned.

I agree that threads shouldn't start unless there is concrete release news, but in this instance I don't think that would've helped with all the negative commentary.

But as I've said before, SF could literally sell you Dog shit and you fanboys would still call it the greatest thing on Earth.
Well, I agree on the quality of the October lineup, but Hell Night is not a Halloween-themed horror movie. I would definitely love to have the blu-ray by early October for my annual Halloween horror movie marathon, but while the cast is dressed in various costumes for the frat party and initiation, it is just an unexplained frat house costume party and the film does not actually take place on Halloween night.

As a non-American it's always so funny and strange to see the fuss about horror titles being released and watched in halloween-season because it's not a thing where I live. I'm a horror fan and it means that I watch horror movies through the year. Well maybe less in the summer because the sun is up through the night, but if I had to choose my favourite time for horror would probably be the christmas holidays.

Horror movies and horror movie marathons always air on TV in the US for most of October so that has probably put a lot of people into the habit.

For the record, I don't have an issue with short delays - they happen, and since this is still essentially just a rumor for the moment I see no reason at all to get up in arms about it. And aside from a couple of comments alluding to frustration I don't really see anyone crying to the heavens. But people have and will continue to express their opinions and share their viewing habits with us here so, for that reason, I don't believe it's a good idea to start these threads until concrete and/or official news has been reported. Having said that, I'm very happy the rights seem to have finally been cleared and that the film seems to be getting a much-deserved home video upgrade in the near future

And this is why threads shouldn't be started without an official announcement lol

Due to some unexpected early retailer pre-order links the word is out that we are the distributor on the blu-ray release of the 1981 horror film HELL NIGHT starring Linda Blair. It is true that we are in talks on the project but we have not made a formal announcement because we are still are in active discussions on the property. Please be assured that you will be the first to know if we are able to work out all the details. We love the film and want nothing more than to do it justice if we can. Till then, stay tuned...

There you have it.
Yet some folks believe SF "dropped the ball".

Ridiculous. I don't know why they're being so weird about this. Pretty sure you don't assign a UPC, SKU or release date if you are just "in talks" for a release.

I guess they feel they'll iron out all their "talks" by December 12, since that's the new release date they have assigned it. Or did Best Buy just make that up, too, for giggles?

EDIT: Best Buy lists their SKU for Hell Night as 33130501.

There you have what? What Scream Factory is now claiming makes zero sense. You wouldn't have that many leaked pre-order pages (not to mention an assigned UPC) if there wasn't more to this. I'm not buying it.

The disc? Well, of course I'm buying that. Don't be silly. Got my Best Buy pre-order locked in.

What I'm not buying is their current claims about the status of this release.

They are the Obama of blu-ray companies. Shit I just stubbed my toe, not sure if that is Obama's or Shout's fault. I blame both!

Well, they have repeatedly on many things. Not sure I'd trust them down the stretch in a tie game if I were the coach.

Bringing politics into the discussion is always a fail. Not to mention against forum rules.

Not sure about how and where in the rights acquisition process UPC codes are obtained. Again, this doesn't speak ill of SF imo.

For me SF has gotten so much more right than wrong.

It's not just Best Buy. Barnes & Noble is now showing the updated December 12 release date... for this release that Scream Factory says doesn't exist.

Of all the "lies" to tell, it's a rather oddly specific one. Seems like there's a bit more internal incentive for some...fans* to believe it's a lie because of some weird on going narrative on a message board. They could simply give a vague "we are dealign with some internal issues on this release" and that would also be a fine answer. Other than "We deliberately dropped the ball because we're greedy and amateurs and I just wish we knew how to run this company as good as people on forum message boards do, boy we suck, this one will just be given out free, please forgive us for wronging you".

I will never, ever understand the need for so many on these forums to constantly make the worst hyperbolic assumptions about the very distributors that are trying to market to to them the releases they want.
