I won't argue with you there.

But I think it's great for JVC fans that they are finally able to choose from multiple (and "affordable") native 4K projectors.

You should have been clearer. I thought you referring to PJs in general. I prefer true 4K too and JVC and Sony are releasing new true 4K PJs this Fall. The 8k eShift should be impressive as well.

Kay, are you still a QPR (https://www.qpr.co.uk/) fan?

Eventually when 8K comes to your neck of the woods, you’ll end up seeing more of the pitch and stadium just as viewers did with UHD HDR as compared to the HD feed…https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post15209227

Halloween (1978) 4K should be perfectly adequate don't you think?
And it's coming in 4 weeks.

And whenever you buy that 8K tv, it'll have an AI assistant to uprez those nasty 4K movies. (I'm not kidding).

This reviewer commented that he really doesn't expect anyone be able to tell the difference between 4k and 8K unless your looking at a set above 100"

Samsung Q900R 8K QLED TV First Look at IFA 2018 - YouTube
if that TV by itself upscales 1080p, 2160p to 7680p without using any special equipment that could be huge. This could be a huge seller for Samsung if what the reviewer stated is actually true upscales lower res to 8K.

Wether or not the viewer sees any difference is subjective.

I don't see upscaling a lower resolution as anything special? They all do that. The problem will be HD or lower resolution will likely look too soft on a very large 8k display.

I really doubt 8k will show up on physical media of any sort. 4k is the last if the studios have anything to say about it. Besides... there's barely any true 4k content given the vast title catalog in the grand scheme of home entertainment brands.

1080p is probably going to look softer on an 8K set upscaled than a 4K set. It depends what kind of processing power this 8K TV is going to have. Maybe nothing will look soft upscaled to 8K on it.

Everyone says 4K UHD Blu-ray is probably the last physical media format but who knows. It might be but 8K UHD Blu-ray I could see happening even if it's niche.

Uhhh yea but it looks like garbage on a 4k tv. So if the new AI engine improves this to plasma like levels then I'd say it's definitely special.

The AI upscaling is supposed to make all content look sharper and more detailed than on a 4k TV showing the same contents. That's the whole selling point of it and why it won a 2018 CES Innovation Award.

Samsung put the Q900 8k up against the Sharp 8k and the AI upscaling was a big difference whereas the sharp 8k looked soft in comparison. Was it a rigged demo or a legit comparison? Guess we'll find out soon.

Default 8K is the next big thing in TVs. Get over it

We just got 4K! There’s no 8K content! What are they thinking? Is my TV about to become obsolete? This is completely unnecessary! All marketing to make us upgrade from our 4K TVs! Make it stop! You can’t see the difference between 4K and 8K. So why even make them?

Folks, calm down. I’m not saying your comments and feelings are invalid...
Pretty level headed discussion about 8K. And Why It's Inevitable !
He even compares 4K adoption to how 8K will eventually play out.
And nobody's current TV is obsolete, at all.

Note to Caleb D of Digital Trends:
I’m quite calmed down and being a sports fan (especially soccer) if in the future the lower rez version broadcasts of soccer matches are derived from and/or cropped as compared to the higher rez version as described in post #290 and as I specifically alerted folks to in 2014 and subsequently was visually illustrated with Vincent Teoh’s YouTube of the 2018 World Cup:

4K version -

HD version -

then when the time is right I’ll gladly purchase an 8K TV in order to see more of the field…..if, as I said the HD or 4K feed is indeed gimped as compared to the 8K feed (with the caveat that acquisition and display are in 120fps for the needed temporal resolution to compensate for the boost in spatial resolution -
