Take a movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was a perfect storm of people doing what they're good at. Lucas came up with the concept and Kasdan helped write it. Then Spielberg directed it and Ford brought the character to life.

Hopefully Benioff and Weiss are taking some material and adapting it to the screen, because that's what they seem best at. Not everyone can do it well.

I don't mind what time period or area of the galaxy they set any future movie or show in as long as it doesn't involve the First Order.

I want new villains.

How is this for an idea - a scientist creates a time machine and a hot chick uses it t travel back in tine to prevent the creation of the First Order and Ben Solo going full evil.

That isn't a plot for a Star Wars story - it is just something I wish would really happen.

Right...so why are the GOT writers considered so good or whatever? The entire series and it’s popularity starts and ends with George Martin. Just like LOTR and it’s awesomeness is 100% because of Tolkien. I dunno, at least they can’t mess anything up regarding the Skywalker characters and storyline. They are on their own and only can go forward. Maybe they’ll pull it off? I hope so, I guess.

I agree that it does take a team of people to make everything come together as well as it did for the original Star Wars films and other classics. IMO, Episode 9 has a lot of bearing on how things go forward. If it’s really good and sets up the characters right, that’ll help kick things off the right way.

DB Weiss and David Benoiff are hacks as evidenced by their behind the episode featurettes for season 8.

Season 8 of GoT was an abomination and proved that without good source material to draw from....these guys are hacks responsible for X-Men Origins: wolverine - the movie where Deadpool's mouth is sewn shut.

I won't be surprised if D&D are regulated to just producers.

It takes a good writer to make a good adaptation, and the way they distilled Martin's books into something fresh, streamlined, but just as effective in those first 4 seasons was pretty brilliant. I think the last couple of seasons were so messy because they set an end goal for the story and had to shoehorn everything into a shortened timetable to get there, rather than letting the characters grow organically as they had in the early seasons, sometimes making strong and wise deviations from the source material. But Martin told them an ending and I guess they felt obligated to get there, whether it fit well with the show they had been making or not.

I didn't hate the ending, but I could also see how the story could have grown to that place with much more satisfaction if they had allowed it more time.

Sources say the Thrones pair is writing a treatment for a Star Wars trilogy and is committed to penning at least one of the films (the original deal was to write all three). It's unclear if the duo, who also have another feature for Fox/Disney carved out, will do more than just write for Star Wars.
