Oh my god, same. I still remember the previews that played before the DVD. I honestly miss the 2000's Disney...if that isn't nostalgia I don't know what is.

Disney Animation believes 4k resolution serves no purpose. Most CGI and maybe most hand drawn content will be 2k upscales. The color volume and HDR will be the primary drivers of PQ gain. Though, 2k cinema DI's have a bit more res. than 1080p. It's mainly a cost saving decision.

Well, I will be hunting down steelbooks and keeping all my old Disney and Pixar releases.
The new covers they decided on are ****ing awful. That whole swathe of white play anywhere bullshit is ridiculous. I'm so ****ing sick of the people that do marketing for these companies, and they need to understand how bad they ****ing suck at everything they do. They are selling 4K discs to basically all of the hardcore movie people. People can ****ing read man. We don't need this bullshit on our slipcovers. I simply cannot and will never understand why they have to **** up artwork with HDR symbols let alone this disaster. Gross. It makes me want to vomit. All you had to do what leave the slipcover alone! Wait, I think we need to take up 1/5 of the slipcover to tell them in some white abomination of an overlay because yes our customers are all idiots and have no idea what they are buying! Oh man, the age of insufferably asinine stupidity has begun. What the digital code inside means I can register it on the internet! OH MY GOD. Like, you should have made it bigger I can't see it! I can't read even! Why am I buying this! Please ruin the artwork to tell me! Thank god I collected the gorgeous steelbooks over the years. I can only wonder if there will be new ones. I did like the last Coco one, but it did not have 4K. I got the 4K disc, and honestly if this is the new layout for ALL Disney films you can shoot me in the face. Can you honestly imagine Disney classics like BatB with a play anywhere thing all over it lol? Oh lord. It just makes it look so trashy and cheap. Last edited by Khronikos; 05-24-2018 at 05:49 AM. |

Considering most of the general public that isn't on these kinds of forums can't tell the difference between 720p & 1080p, it's probably that the majority of people that view their content don't care. In fact, people, still today, don't know that blu-ray players also play DVDs...recently I checked out disc players at a Target, the boxes have all kinds of symbols on them for what types of discs and streaming content they can play, most brands don't have DVD symbols on the boxes, nor indicate you can play DVDs on them. This is why people still buy DVDs, they upscale on their HDTVs and that's good enough for them. ...Others are switching to streaming/VOD content for convenience sake, for the above reasons and not knowing or caring about PQ & audio quality. It's up to us to show people and help them understand, the studios aren't going to do it, not if they can still sell their product their way. The thing about HDR and WCG is not that it makes digital better, but, it is still only making it closer to the color and dynamic range of film. We've spent too many years looking at digital video, in the cinema and home, we don't realize what we are missing because they do things like increase contrast or brightness, (and now saturation), to make us think it's better, when it's lower quality PQ tweaked out, (or, even worse, "Vivid" settings on TVs). Before anyone tries to tell me otherwise, remember, some Directors still use film today, not because it's "softer" or "analog" but because it has qualities digital has not reached yet. That all being said, if the general public catches on that 4K with HDR and WCG is near film quality and they like it, that is, if someone starts doing a lot more 4K VFX or animation, then we will see more 4K DIs from the likes of Disney. |

It's still June 5th. Disney's official video announcement said as much. Best Buy's just being stupid.

Parents of young kids walking through Target/Walmart and seeing those banners actually helps them understand that they can then play the movie anywhere. On their phone, iPad, tv....Believe it or not, it helps them. Disney is worried about selling to them, and clearly their marketing research is leading them to do this. I do wish they were removable stickers or something too, as I don’t like them either, but there are much bigger fish to fry on this great spinning mass of land and water we live on. |

I've seen the first two Toy Story movies so many goddamn times, that I think I can play the whole movies in my head second by second. I don't know if it is even worth buying them yet again because of that.

So disappointed they didn’t re-render the film for UHD. Maybe when Incredibles 3 is released...
