I'll take that with a grain of salt like everything else. Especially since that user was one of the few people who said there would be a Star Wars IX title reveal before 2019. We all know how that turned out.

The success of a third lies in playing the material straight. That's how the first two have worked. They are (especially the second) sci-fi action films. That stupid remake, the joke was the movie itself. The first one was shot by László Kovács, for Chrissake. Technically, it's a beautiful film, and it's played straight, and the laughs come from the situation and the screen presence of the comedic actors. Sadly, they don't make movies like that anymore, movies shot that way, and they have to try too hard to make it funny. If they can just let the actors coast on their charm (if they still have it), and play the movie straight, they could have a winner. I'm skeptical, because the studio is going to want a joke every 30 seconds.

Yeah, the humor in the original was more deadpan and sarcastic. Where as in Feigbusters, it was more slapstick.

I remember when the Feig supports here would defend it by saying that the humor is no different from the original. Funny, because where are all these guys now.

2016 Ghostbusters is the only Ghostbusters movie to bomb at the box office. Thankfully, that is now in name only, due to it being erased from canon. That is pure fact, and no amount of opinion/Feig defending can change that.

I think Annie might appear. But Rick? That's going to be a big challenge. Perhaps the prospect of this movie being a continuation of the original universe will help persuade him. But I know for a fact he won't do it if his character has been poorly written.

I kind of like that idea. Have it that the kids (or parents as a gift, cause they support thier kids’ hobbies) pooled their money together to get a junked Ecto 1A and they decide to work on it to look like the Ecto 1.

I only say that cause I just want to know, will part 3 acknowledge the 1A? Or will they pretend it never was upgraded in ‘89?

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson confirmed to return as the original Ghostbusters!

Quote:
With the recent surprise announcement of a new Ghostbusters film, several aspects of the original Ghostbusters made an unexpected return to the franchise. Jason Reitman, the son of the original film’s director Ivan Reitman, was announced as the director of the film, and the new sequel is is set in the original film’s continuity. When a teaser trailer was released , it raised anticipation to a new level as it revealed the Ghostbusters' signature vehicle, the loud and flashing Ecto-1 in an rundown barn.

An now, it looks like the surviving members of the original Ghostbusters cast will appear in the film too. According to a new report, original Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson confirmed the he, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd would return in the new film.

While it's not clear how the film will address the absence of the late Harold Ramis, who played the Ghostbuster Egon Spengler and co-created the franchise, Hudson said that his presence could still be felt in the film.

"I miss him, but his spirit is there. But Ivan Reitman is there and everybody is in," Hudson said to DailyMailTV, before remembering his late friend. “He was my go-to point and anything that was a little bit weird, or whatever, Harold was the guy who would sort of say, Ernie, just…” and explain the world to me."

Ramis passed away in 2014 from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis.

While Hudson, Murray and Aykroyd made cameos in director Paul Feig's 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, they didn't appear as their iconic characters. However, The Daily Mail reports that the three Ghostbusters will reprise their iconic roles and said that Aykroryd was instrumental in getting the film made.

Hudson added that he believes that Aykroyd, who has spoken highly of the project and its direction, will have the original gang return to modern day New York and that despite their age, the original Ghostbusters still have much to offer the upcoming generation.

“We’ve grown," Hudson said. "We’ve learned and a lot of really new young talent that I’m sure they’d bring in to it. So, it would be a lot of fun, I think it would only deepen."

The film is scheduled for a summer 2020 release.

Already posted it earlier, but I'm glad it's being spread around on different sources. The more people know, the better!

Oh, I thought that was the one where Dan Aykroyd confirms it himself. Which is hard to take notice because Dan Aykroyd's comments are all over the place. So much so that people didn't take this thread seriously when it was first reported that Ghostbusters 3 was being written, lol!

Yeah it happens no biggie. Dan has always been way too eager concerning GB3. He says stuff before anything concrete happens. This time however, it panned out.

Thank God that Bill cameo in GB16 wouldn't be the last time seeing him in a Ghostbusters movie. His cameo sucked.

DanielRPK's reports about teens in a small town is exactly the kind of thing I expected from this film. They're going the Force Awakens / Creed route with the story - introduce new characters and dilemma in Act One, have them meet up with classic heroes and receive some guidance in Act Two, come into their own as the new leads for this and future stories in Act Three. This is what they should have done five years ago.

If they go the Star Wars Sequels route they can explain Egon not being there because he gave up after after being called a fraud a second time at the end of Ghostbusters II and goes to an island to die.

But where’s the exact quote from Hudson? Not denying it, but I’ve only read descriptions of him confirming the return of Murray (I’d say Hudson and Aykroyd are a lock). He mentions Reitman at one point, but never specifically Bill Murray. Just looking for clarification on that one! So many articles about this confirmation, but no real quote at least that I can find. I do have faith it’ll happen though!

Direct from Ernie hudson's mouth:

Quote:
'And I miss him, but his spirit is there. But Ivan Reitman is there and everybody is in. Now whether the studio will do it, I'm the guy who sits by the phone and waits for the call. So if they call, I'll answer. If not, I've got other stuff that I'm doing.'
Obviously, the bolded part is the emphasized bit.

But he also says “whether the studio will do it...” which makes it seem like he doesn’t see this as official right?

Again, it seems official, but the quote seems off. And wouldn’t they lead with this announcement via Reitman from the get go? You know “for the fans.”

But I digress. I am beyond excited for this movie. Even if it’s a fraction of the original, I’ll still be there Summer 2020.

I understand the confusion. I think at that time, they were getting all the planning together for the Jason Reitman Ghostbusters. I believe the project Ernie is talking about, is that of what the new teaser trailer has shown. Plus Ernie himself came out on twitter responding to the teaser trailer, practically confirming his involvement (Dan too, for that matter). Just gotta connect the dots.

Yeah, I know haha. Just trying not to get my hopes up just in case!. I saw a post on a ghostbusters Facebook group saying Hudson’s quote was from an event before the announcement of the new movie and the daily mail UK is just a “gossip mag that takes quotes from other places.” But it’s all good. The more GB the better I say!

Back to something I posted earlier though...I get the use of Ecto 1 in the teaser, but I wonder if Ecto 1A will be acknowledged or forgotten? I just hope they don’t pretend it never existed haha.
