Return to Zombie Island looks horrifically woeful.

Well it is not like it has the same people working on it that worked on the original.

It could be different people and not be horrifically woeful, tbh

As someone who loves the original Zombie Island, this sequel pains me. Burn the sequel to the ground and give us a remaster of the original on Blu-ray.

Everything was done on either film, videotape (but why would an animated feature use videotape as its photography/recording medium?), or after the mid-2000s, high definition digital video (ZODIAC by David Fincher being the first feature shot all digital).

Someone please correct me if I got anything wrong there.
You're correct. When an animated film was done using cels and traditional ink and paint, as Zombie Island was (I own two cels used in production), it was shot on film, either 16mm (in the case of most anime) or 35mm (as all Warner productions like Zombie Island were). They could've been edited on video, but I don't think Zombie Island was since shows like Batman TAS and Batman Beyond apparently have cut negatives that were used for their HD remaster. You definitely cannot photograph anything frame-by-frame on video tape. You can do it with a digital camera, but that technology wasn't available (at least in suitable form) until after traditional animation had switched to digital ink and paint. The only cel-animated show I can think of that used a digital camera was Sazae-san before it finally switched to digital ink/paint in 2009.

Bottom line: Zombie Island can absolutely be remastered in HD if Warner does a new scan. The same goes for Witch's Ghost and Alien Invaders.

Pre-ordered.

Really excited for this! Used the welcome discount over at WB Shop so I ended up getting it for £62.99.

Yeah, if one gets announced or hinted somehow, I have no intention of keeping my pre-order for this set.

I'm growing more and more scared that they won't sell 50,000 and won't bother with a standard set.

I really don't want this clunky set on my shelf

After what they did to 13 ghosts of scooby doo with that crappy 13 ghost movie spitting in the eyes of 80s scooby fans I won't buy the new zombie island film till I find out if they make the zombies fake. If they recon the first one claiming there was no magic or real zombies I may be done with these direct to video scooby films.

You CAN have real ghosts in scooby films wb!

It doesn't come out for another few weeks, and Warner usually doesn't wait until their LEs sell out before producing standard editions anyway. You can still find new copies of their Wizard of Oz and Willy Wonka LEs for SRP or less.

This isn't a movie though, and they came out with the Batman TAS standard edition without much of an announcement beforehand and it was likely rushed due to the LE selling out so quick.

Hard to say whether it would have got released if Batman hadn't sold out 70,000 units so quickly. I'm just not very confident that 50,000 units of a Scooby-Doo set that a lot of people don't want on their shelves will sell out so quick.

The 50,000 just sounds ridiculous. This means they expect a fair amount (even a lot) of B&M sales.

What B&M stores will carry such a unique set and if so, how many will they stock (especially given the shelf space required in their stores.

This just doesn't make sense.

The packaging has grown on me but I won't be getting this day one. I am going to wait for all of you to be my test subjects to see if WB screws this up somehow and if amazon decides to ship them all out in bubble mailers like the Batman Animated Series. First week of October should be good.

It's not like one has to buy everything from Amazon.

It's a pretty collector's set alright, but I'm waiting for the normal case release.

Did you preorder it while they were running the discount promotion a few weeks ago? It automatically took $16 off of the price and brought my preorder down to $69 bucks. Sell off the digital and you can get this under $50 for sure, not counting another possible price drop before release.

There was a coupon available at checkout for a short time when they were pricematching another retailer at the time.

It was Target, I can't remember the exact promotion but that's who they were matching.
