I prefer the standard cover as well but I just wish Aladdin and Jasmine weren't so off model.

Aladdin should be the most different from it's Blu-ray release - it will contain the new full animated aspect ratio of 1.66:1 and returning to the original CAPS animation file sources should result removal of edge enhancement present on the previous Blu-ray master. To me they are all worth upgrading - Lion King's color and compression is better and fixes the mistake in the clouds on the previous version. Mermaid fixes several issues with shots that were out of order and has better color and detail. In addition all digital copy codes are 4k and have Dolby Vision versions available through Vudu.

Are you talking about the animated version or the live-action?

If they're going for 1.66:1, it looks like the mouse will be doing a brand new master instead of rehashing the old 1.85 master (which I thought was 4k SDR, but isn't the case according to that1guystudios). I don't know if the bulk of the film will still contain the IMAX revisions or utilize the original 1992 CAPS element, but I say there's a high chance we could get the 1985-2006 Walt Disney Pictures logos back into the start and ends.

I also noticed it's now available on Vudu again. Anyone check to see if they're using the new 4 master, the 1.85 BD one, or the 1.66 master used for the 2003 DVD?

Its a shame that the steelbook has a picture disc for the blu that goes with the 4k and that the digibook, with a plain blu, has the better cover.

That's not going to happen.

If they change the 4k framed to 1:66:1 will they also change the Blu ray that comes with it?

There are 2 separate listings on Vudu. If you didn’t get the previous digital copy (it’s the 1.66 2003 DVD master), then you won’t be able to purchase it, but could still redeem a Diamond Edition digital code to get it.
The one you’re seeing is the upcoming Signature, which should be the 4K master (hopefully!). No one will be able to see that one until the digital release date.

Unless Disney suddenly changes their policy of updating their classics to extend copyright, the remaster will use the current CGI castle logo, not the original Blue/White Logo. I'd love it if they used the original logo, but chances on that are extremely slim.

Yes - Jeremy is dead-on here. The VUDU version (which is redeemable from a a Diamond Edition code) is presented in 1.66:1 and uses the same HD master prepared for the original DVD release and uses the original castle logo. Movies Anywhere plays the diamond edition version with the updated logos at 1.78:1 (cropped on the sides) and the iTunes version is 1.85:1 matching the Diamond Blu-ray.

The previous release never went away. Looks like we're stuck with the widescreen crop

Bummer.

Thanks for replying! Does that mean the same for 101 Dalmatians II (the animated sequel)? Is the old one from 2015 still available on DMC as well?

Saw on DMC they have a 2 pack with 4K of 1992 Aladdin with bluray of 2019 Aladdin. Why wouldn't they have a double pack with both 4K's. That is dumb.

Wow that is dumb. Wonder if they’ll make a double feature FT for $41-$43. That would be great so it triggers discounts on other eligible 4Ks.

No prob! Yep, it’s still on there as well. The Jungle Book 2 is gone, though.

My guess is that they will have them as the double feature title, and a triple with the sequels’ blu combo.
