I learned my lesson with the first one. The only thing the people behind these so called “documentaries” seem to be good at is finding new ways to screw people out of their money.

I figured as much. Oh, well; I still loved the first one even with him, so game on.

People just like to complain about anything. Who told that guy to buy two versions? You know, I spent $80 for the Fright Rags edition and I feel it's worth it because I got both films on Blu-ray and digital, four posters, a T-shirt, and whatever else stuff that comes with it. I feel like that's a good deal. I personally feel like it was silly to have different cuts of the first film last time. Oh no! Everyone gets to see the same movie they bought and don't have to spend extra money on different versions for 20 minutes of extra footage. If anything, that's saving people money. Here, the content is identical and it's up to you which extra perks you want.

I feel like, at this price point, you are allowed to have higher expectations.

9 hour of content on both digital and pressed Blu-ray, slipcover, reversible art, four posters, pins, name in the credits, a Fright Rags T-shirt (which by the way is worth $25+) and so on? If that's not worth $80 to you, don't buy it. It was to me, so I bought it and have already enjoyed both documentaries in the digital download.

I see where you are coming from but a lot of people don't really ascribe any value to the additional chachkies. A blu-ray only teir would have been a crowd favorite option IMO.

Why people watch his channel is beyond my level of understanding. You're either robbing yourself from experiencing the kills yourself or letting this bore of a human being retell a plot you've already seen. You're better off re-watching the film for yourself, all Dead Meat does is tally up the kills (something anyone can do) and pads it out with absolute cringe humor.

I've brought this up on Reddit before and I was massively downvoted for it. I will never understand the appeal of that man, and his role in this documentary was one of many reasons I regretted buying this.

To me these are nothing but Cliff Notes of 80’s horror. Like the kind of thing you would show someone who’s new to the genre and wants to know the basics. If you’re even half educated on the topic, then there’s nothing in these things you don’t already know.

I watched them both back to back over a few days (both the Elvira editions).

The bulk of the documentary is a year by year discussion of about 5 films per year.
Generally the movies chosen for review/discussion are based around who they could get to interview who directly worked on them. So it is not a “best of” list or a “deep dive” into the films. Then generally talking heads from all walks of life to comment as well. Sometimes they give spoilers on a film.

The second is a better, mostly due to the varied topic discussions between breaks in reviewing the movies ( topics like final girls, movies occurring on holidays, mini bios from Robert Englund, Nancy Allen etc)

The second moves has some unseen lower quality movies, some foreign (non-US) films etc. which was nice.

I would love to see the unused footage from John Carpenter, stuart Gordon, Barbara Campton, Tom Holland, Jeffery Combs, that we only get a short runtime with. Seeing clips from the same interview sitting with people appear in both videos, I assume they had to foresight to discuss at length various movies/topics, so they potentially can continue this into a whole series.

The first had extra footage of Elvira inserted of her talking of her favourite few runners up and favourite for each year segment so added some 20mins to the regular runtime. So it make it like she was hosting the documentary.

Interesting to see this some of this Elvira footage ended up in the main second one when she is doing some talking head moments.
The second one had Elvira do a 20min mini-documentary biography, rather than her being inserted heavily into the main feature. Probably to save the pain on trying to do multiple versions.

It certainly does not break new ground. New facts are scarce in the interviews. Most avid horror fans will have seen a majority of the films discussed. They certainly highlight the gore clips from the films. I found it fun, but not rewarding after the investment in the long runtime. Some brief interview clips leave you wanting more. Others add no value. I suppose it is more like a visual fan podcast. I found it easiest to watch in small chunks of time.

Anyway....

There was a guy i used to work with who claimed to have watched a bunch of the films that were featured on Dead Meat. Throughout talking with this guy, I became very clear that he hadn't watched the films themselves but the Kill Count episodes, as he could not recall anything in the films that wasn't covered on the Kill Count. When I questioned him on this , he said "What's the point of wasting the time watching the film when I can watch the Kill Count and basically see the film?" We got into an argument about how watching the films was the whole point, but he stood his ground. I stopped talking to him after that.

This is why people watch Dead Meat. That and many horror fans like hearing the same things about the same horror films over and over and over again. That is why thr In Search of Darkness films are so popular and terrible at the same time.

After hearing him speak a few times I had to keep the remote handy. I hit that mute button for the remainder of the documentary every time he appeared.

I received an email a few weeks ago that I probably would not receive my bluray until sometime late January, at the earliest...

I received an alert from FedEx that mine shipped out on Tuesday, set to be delivered by January 9.

Nothing from the CreatorVC order yet.
