Ordered a copy from Amazon and it just arrived - sans slipcover and shrinkwrapped in a plastic baggie over the regular shrinkwrap. This was probably someone's return, which I don't mind as long as it's in good shape (it appears to be) but charge a little less for it.

It says the Dutch one has an avg. bitrate of 73.46 Mbps. Is that the same on the Plaion? The specs are also similar. I assume Plaion didn't do the encoding on the ITA disc, but just distribution. |

Eddie Murphy is one of my all time favorite actors for comedy. I grew up in the 1980’s and 1990’s watching many of his movies. Its been many years since I have seen the Beverely Hills Cop trilogy, I original saw the first two movies in a theater.
I did end up buying the Beverly Hills Cop 4K Blu-ray boxset that has all three movies in it. This boxset was released on 2-20-2024 and I purchased it on release date. But I ended up getting busy with projects and watching other things, the boxset got placed to the back of the shelf. I kind of feel bad I did not watch this back in Feb 2024, I will try and watch this classic trilogy comedy sometime in 2025. So many awesome new and old movies and TV series, and only so many hours in a year to watch things. If one watches too much stuff from the 20th Century, one does not have time for new 21st Century movies and TV series. Once again there is so much awesome movies and TV series from the 20th Century that it would take several lifetimes to see everything. Wishing Eddie Murphy Happy Holidays. I loved watching his comedies in the 1980’s. And I have most likely only seen 40% of everything he made so far. But I am still a big Eddie Murphy fan. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Bever...lu-ray/350628/ |

I do not understand why people are praising this disc, it's one of the most maddening releases I have seen.
Firstly, there is quite a bit of DNR used here, especially the opening credits. It's smeary and artificial and so bad that I thought I put in the Blu-ray instead. Okay, fine, so maybe opticals get smashed a ton here and it'll be fine once the movie starts proper. Nope, not really. So much of the time there's like grain smeared over an image that isn't that detailed to begin with (whether that's artificial grain put back on the image or just the actual grain struggling to be seen I don't know) and especially during the second half of the movie when there is more visible film grain the compression is so bad that it destroys that too so I just see a soup of blurry grain and compression artifacts. There was never really a lot of detail on display save for primarily the bright outdoor Beverly Hills shots (for obvious reasons) and a handful of shots at the BV police station. It's a double smack of DNR and/or compression. I think the compression issues are ever-present, and the image looks better or worse depending on the amount of noise reduction used during a given sequence. Overall I found it to be quite disappointing especially when compared to films of a similar vintage such as say The Running Man. |

I just watched this oddly enough last night and still enjoy the disc, it's an ugly looking film to begin with I'd be hard pressed to notice anything off with the UHD. The second film is clearly more the stunner when I watch it.
