LOL ya like...I agree with what Cinema84 said. Sums up SF perfectly. They're def more interested in profits because if they weren't, there wouldn't be so many issues with their releases. They churn out titles like nobody's business and often don't give them the care and attention they deserve (i.e. encoding issues) and why do they do that?

Money. Plain and simple.

And to an extent I get it, they have to be profitable in order to survive as a business, I just wish they wouldn't put profits over QC as often as they do.

"Carrie" is a Mexican film production about a young girl that hasn't BEAN told about her menstrual cycle, and when she gets bullied by a gang of female uptown whitebread tramps, she gets medieval on their asses. It's boring, it's old, it's all been done before. And now it's possible that the new 4k discs were scratched up in Mexico, which may actually be a reverse-discrimination hate crime. DePalma was a hack anyway. I just bought this for the packaging. Film at 11.

Edit: This release looks pretty solid. Very filmic, I'm digging it. Time to settle in and watch. The early shower scene DOES look a bit funky right now with the steam and splattering water - the encode looks to be struggling a bit with it. Colors look great so far. OK, back to your bean banter, sorry to derail with mention of the 4k disc's pq.

But it's not just SF that's putting out scratched discs though. A lot of discs from other companies are also scratched because of the substandard quality control at the last remaining North American replication plant which is in Mexico. I find it hard to imagine that none of these companies have contacted this replication plant about this issue but clearly nothing is changing. Also, SF have a better track record of admitting and fixing their mistakes (which will cost them a lot of money) compared to other labels.

This is true. And with regards to the scratched discs, I've found that I actually have a higher ratio of scratched discs that come from Criterion compared to SF. I can't imagine that Criterion hasn't reached out to them. I know Kino did, and I'm still getting scratched discs on their new releases.

Maybe there really isn't much they can do, which is unfortunate. Thankfully Paramount presses their discs in Germany (but then you're having to deal with a Paramount UHD and all the issues THEY bring to the table lol).

There's just no winning.

I just don't get what leverage they have if they try and tell the company that they need to improve their QC. It's not like they can take their business elsewhere. The company could probably get a lot worse and they'd just all have to take it, unless someone else wants to step up and make a huge manufacturing plant for a dying medium. :P

THIS. I've actually never received a scratched Shout 4k disc, knock on wood, but I've received several discs now of Sony, Disney, and especially Criterion titles, that looked like they were raped by a lemon zester in heat, and then dragged across skateboard tape.

I have zero insight into the situation, but having worked in corporate for too many years my guess is the studios are not willing to pay for the quality needed. They probably look at calculations of the number of exchanged disc costs, etc. and say it's not worth paying more for care. They might be able to pay the plant company X percent more for the quality really needed, but figure it's not worth it. And inflationary pressures don't help either.

I got my copy today! And unfortunately thanks to SF's apparent contract with the scratch factory I need to watch it tonight! My copy of Black Christmas was fine, here's hoping this one is too.

Got mine today and everything was in perfect condition except for a few scratches on the edge of the UHD. Contacted Shout and they quickly added me to the replacement list after sending a few photos and proof of purchase. Nothing about sending video clips or anything.

First time I’ve had to contact them since Cat People.

Definitely not racist. Even The Simpsons poked fun at it as it pertains to business.

I think he was calling the baggins fellow an idiot as opposed to yourself. The way I read it, he's calling baggins a troll who never actually thought your post was racist but was trying to make a joke or something.

Are there any extras on the bonus disc that weren't already on the previous SF disc? Because if not, I'm just swapping them out.

I grabbed the steelbook today at Best Buy. I typically don't care for steelbooks and am a big fan of the original Carrie poster art that's on the regular 4K release—however, I own the Arrow Blu-ray and the previous Scream release, both of which offered the original poster art on the reverse side, which I have proudly displayed. When I saw the steelbook in person, I was actually rather impressed by how it looked, so figured, "why not?" It's actually quite snazzy.

So yeah grabbed mine last night. I think overall it's a nice encode. I only skimmed through various scenes and I think the grain field is rendered quite well for the most part. There are a couple outdoor scenes where the grain seems to break up a bit in the sky (like when Miss Collins is walking down the steps and sees Carrie sitting on the bench outside the gym bathrooms just to give an example) and some brighter parts get a tad blocky. Nowhere near as bad as something like Saturday Night Fever though and I feel like most people probably wouldn't notice it. But overall I think this is one of the better encodes to come from SF. Not perfect, I think Black Christmas and The Fog, for example, look a bit better but there's some medium shots and closeups where you can really see the uptick in natural detail. It's a rather grainy film and I think they were able to render it fairly well on the UHD.

UHD and the first BD were mint in my set, but wow the extras disc is pretty mangled. Typical deep scrapes from the edge to the centre and a bunch of those circular scratches. This is madness. I can handle a few light surface scratches but it's ridiculous that discs in this condition are making it into sets so frequently. I've never actually emailed SF to ask for a replacement (only to mention the QC issues regarding scratched discs) so I think I might this time around. I don't wanna bother my local shop with exchanging it, plus it's annoying having to go back so I'm just gonna shoot SF an email asking if they can send me a replacement disc for the extras.
