There’s no problem with laying off 7,000 workers in a worldwide cost of living crisis?

How to maximise profits. Sequels and layoffs. Genius. You can certainly see why he is paid the big bucks.

That's just it. The layoffs are a product of that. Amazon announced they are laying off 10,000 workers.

No reason to call out Disney. They are just one of many companies doing it:

Zoom is slashing 1,300 workers amid a wave of layoffs. Here's the full list of major US companies making cuts in 2023.

WRONG! He sees what's going on and has reacted to it: Make cuts. Chapek had rose colored glasses on and ignored the economic downturn.

I wonder the wages of the 7,000 released was in comparison to the majority of executives who no doubt were retained.

You are missing the point. Think of all the benefits those 7000 people consume versus a handful of executives. And there will be cuts there also. You can bet on that.

Lots . . . just like any CEO of a $200 billion corporation.

You didn't ask the right question. Here's the answer:

The Walt Disney Company has 223,000 employees, of which 71 are in a leadership position.

Well, it sucks for those affected but companies shedding workers isn’t new nor uncommon. I know some here might not want to hear this but people will carry on and many times end up in a better situation. They’ll land on their feet. We also don’t know what jobs have been hit. If they are low level then those people can replace the job with something else basic until they can get something better. If they were technical or skill based jobs then they can take those skills elsewhere.

A LOT of places are hiring. The middle sized software company I work for is expanding and hiring. We aren’t the only ones. It’s also a chance for a career change which can be a welcome thing. I’m trying to be positive here, people.

Disney is evil. I wish these 7000 employees the best. Maybe we need 7000 school teachers more than we need 7000 servants of Satan?

People will justify 7,000 layoffs simply because it's Iger, the same people were up in arms when it was learned Chapek was planning to do the same. Iger gets a free pass, and I don't have to state why, because it's not worth going into.

Looks like the plan is to let the creative be creative. Hopefully this trickles down to the comic division.

I got laid off once. It happens to a lot of people, and isn't inherently bad. Best thing that ever happened to me. Yes, there is an initial feeling of shock and betrayal, but what matters is how you move forward.

I was too comfortable where I was working and had no drive. Being laid off forced me to have a fresh start, and be motivated. I am making even more $$$, in a job/company with perfect fit for my skills and experience, and with a much better culture among the employees (vs. my prior place of employment).
