Yup. It's like a giant game of shells.

I understand. The interstitials were almost enough to chase me away as well. I find them very annoying and a waste of time on Disney's part. It kind of feels like they lack the ability to see people accepting these as shorts and are trying to turn them into some kind of movie. Really stupid.

Keep in mind, this is a family-friendly release so of course you have to appeal it to that age group (especially the children).

Just keep making the compilations sell and we'll get sets that meets with the adult collector in mind, don't you worry.

Sorry, but I don't buy that. Plenty of classic Disney or Looney Tunes shorts releases on disc in the last 20 years clearly aimed at kids that didn't require interstitials to sell the discs. The actual truth is the people at DHE today don't actually know what they are doing with these releases, or don't care.

You are far too optimistic. The interstitials make this release unwatchable for me, and they will not do anything targeting adult collectors. Hang onto your Disney Treasures sets, because it won't get better.

You can fast forward through them. I guess ideally there'd be a way to turn them off but still I don't think it's that big of a deal. And I actually liked how they turned it into a movie lol. It gives them some kind of intro and context.

You’re sadly very much correct, sales isn’t what’s going to lead to chronological comprehensive releases, it would be those to champion for such releases to happen.

Leonard Maltin has said multiple times that Dick Cook is who he pitched the Walt Disney Treasures series to and was the reason why it happened. After Bob Iger fired Dick Cook in September 2009, Walt Disney Treasures came to an abrupt end with Wave Nine in November 2009 as with Dick Cook gone there was no one to champion for them and no one seemed interested.

The Disney Treasures sets had Leonard Maltin apologies attached to quite a few of the cartoons. It's impossible to play the more offensive cartoons without being shamed for watching it before the cartoon starts. The solution is simple. Rip and play from files.

Unfortunately, that was the only way to get them to even release the cartoons uncut.

Exactly. At this point, the only way this situation changes is if the company has a totally top to bottom changing of the powers-that-be with new powers-that-be that suddenly care about such titles and they bring in someone like Dick Cook.

Looking at the company's current situations, it's not hard seeing that as possible, but I say it's more likely we just wait till these shorts go into the public domain and let a third-party publisher take care of it. However, that is going to take time.

As others have said, hold on to those Disney Treasures! A title for a series has never been more spot on!

The interstitials are terrible! The opening one's music even bleeds over into the title card for Steamboat Willie. That is unacceptable. I would love a Treasures release on blu.

Even if they do release a more comprehensive release without all that filler, there are probably going to be a lot more warning labels on a lot more cartoons than before.

Never have I seen a single company turn its back on its heritage so dramatically.

That is just flat-out embarrassing that they still try to pass such sloppy work off as a professional product. They have regressed from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s and it shows. Even setting aside the debate over the appropriateness of "outdated" content, they don't treat what they actually feel comfortable releasing all that well to begin with.

Yes. The Gallopin' Gaucho will be joining it. Plane Crazy goes into public domain a year later. A lot of classic Disney shorts should be in the PD by the end of the decade. About time!

It was released in 1946, so it should hit the PD by 2042 if my math is correct. I hope I'm still alive by then. Unless I die young, I should be. May be a long shot, but I hope we finally get a congress to get in their and fix copyright law to abolish the 1998 extension at the very least. That would hopefully retroactively dump a bunch of titles like Song of the South into the PD faster. It's nuts that it isn't there already.

Keep in mind that Disney will likely retain the negatives and best available elements for any PD title, however.
