In the same boat, my copy shipped from Diabolikdvd yesterday so it was too late to cancel. In the future I think I will only preorder from places that can easily cancel or return an item like Amazon or Target (Even though I’m not a supporter of retail giants) unless maybe it’s a foreign release. Thinking back it made little sense for me to jump the gun on preordering at the first place that had the preorder up since it’s not a limited edition or difficult to preorder.

The night time scenes I also agree have better shadow detail now and overall this upgrade is immediately apparent from the opening logos with that eerie music (that Paramount logo bathed in red looks really amazing too). I also started watching some of the supplements here and it’s quality work, Arrow brought their A games here folks!
Something seemed off in the older blu ray. There were out of focus shots which made me think there was an error in the photography even though it was shot by the great Daniel Pearl. I'm glad that issue has been resolved with the new 4k UHD. The movie does have beautiful cinematography.

The disc in the Shout box set is literally just the regular WB blu-ray put into a new case.

Is there any difference to the kills in the Killer cut? I watched both back to back and I couldn't discern any extra violence or blood. Like, at all. I prefer the theatrical. It moves more fluidly and removes that terrible scene where the sister briefly escapes. And the alternate shots in the Killer cut look worse. But that's just my opinion..

Looks worse how? Do you mean the source material is in worse shape so it stands out from the rest of the footage, or do you just not like how it was shot?

I think it's a combination of it standing out from the rest of the footage and just not liking how it was shot. There were shots in the Killer cut that struck me as drab or blah whereas those shots were not present in the theatrical. And the shots that appeared to be different in the theatrical didn't stand out as much and felt brighter and more striking. Maybe some of it wasn't touched up to the degree the theatrical shots were.

To be fair, I'm not talking about huge sections of the movie. The ones that stood out to me the most were shots of Jason in his tunnel lair. I'll see if I can figure which ones they were specifically.

ETA...I believe the section that stood out to me most were the parts in the Killer cut where Jason sits down at the grinder and sharpens his machete and has a memory of his mother and flips out and starts throwing things. None of that looked good to me. The parts that are in that scene's place struck me as looking better. There might be more but I can't pinpoint them presently. The theatrical just struck me as ever so slightly more solid visually. It might be something tangible...it might just be a by product of having seen only the Killer cut for over a decade and the theatrical feeling "newer." But it was striking enough that I'll be watching only the theatrical from now on.

This was on the standard blu-ray that's been out for ages to be clear...not the new Arrow release. I also greatly prefer the flow of the theatrical. There might be a smidge more violence in the Killer cut but it's so little that I literally couldn't tell. And I watched them back to back. I also much prefer not having the scene where the sister escapes and Jason catches her again. It's pointless and makes the whole area this takes place in feel extremely small..

None of what Streamingsux pointed out bothered me in the Killer Cut, but that's the only version I've ever seen. So maybe I'll start with the TC on this release, though it's been a couple years since I last watched it and likely won't be able to spot the differences.

This lines up with my vague memories of the two versions. The killer cut is ten minutes (!) longer, making it the longest in the series, and the changes/additions often don't seem to have a tangible effect on the violence. I don't mind extra scenes, but since I don't... well, to be blunt, I think these characters are shithouse compared to the 1980 original, and I don't want to spend any extra time with them unless it's for a good reason.

So I guess I'll be starting with the theatrical this time. (One of these days I'm going to come around on this one but I haven't yet!)

The Killer Cut has more nudity therefore the Killer Cut is the superior cut.

Thanks for coming out to my Ted talk.

I am doing a binge of Criminal Minds and the Stupendous actress was in an episode. She got thrown down a stairwell and died. The real tragedy is she was clothed the entire time.

Cancelled my Diabolik preorder and put one in with Grindhouse last week. It showed up today. Great looking release from Arrow. I've been really satisfied with my purchases of theirs lately. This is definitely the earliest I've ever received a release. Anybody know why they shipped out from Arrow so early? The girlfriend & I are looking forward to checking out this one and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas for a double feature tonight.

****ing Amazon cancelled my order yesterday. Initially before they canceled it, i were having a look at my gift card balance And got refunded some of it back for it because of the 50% when it lowered to $24.99 but then a few hours later they just cancelled it. I spoke to an agent and they said Amazon just automatically canceled it because of the price change? Has that ever happened to anyone else?

I might be inclined to agree if the internet didn't exist and naked breasts on a screen weren't so otherwise easily viewable..

Yeah none of that stuff is a huge deal. Just my own POV. I definitely prefer the theatrical cut but I don't GREATLY prefer it.....if that makes sense..

And if it were male nudity instead of female.

It’s still $24.99 on Amazon. Just reorder. 🤷🏼*♂️

Thanks for coming out to my Ted talk.
It's both inferior and better depending on the scene. The extra sex & nudity at the starting is welcome, but the finale of the opening scene lacks the punch the theatrical version has because of the lame alternate footage used.

Later bit in the film of exploring the camp grounds a bit longer before nightfall is nice atmosphere. But the extra stuff with the sister was stupid.

A hybrid edit of the best of both versions could be created if someone were up to tackling it.
