They didn't extend the international version, they cut the US version. Hence my use of the term director's cut when referring to the international cut.

Full list of US cuts can be found in link below:

From the info I have it's the director who made the cuts.

So you could also say the US version is a "Director's Cut".

Presumably at the behest of New Line Cinema.

Just because Jay Roach made/approved the cuts doesn't mean that's the version he would've chosen to release given free choice.

Most US theatrical releases are director approved, but not necessarily representative of their true director's cut.

Given that the US was the only country to use the shortened version, it stands to reason that the international cut is the director's cut.

Except in this case it's an American movie.

Many films have tweaks in other countries. Doesn't mean that the original version is any less valid or to be considered "inferior" in any way.

Plus having Rob Lowe in there messes with the surprise of him appearing in The Spy Who Shagged Me.

The extended cut is the one I know and love. It's a shame the UK release didn't get as good as treatment.

Actually, it's a US-German co-production.

And the longer version was released in Germany, also.

why is there such a huge price difference between the 2 boxsets if they contain exactly the same discs?

I agree. An actor playing multiple parts may fly in other film series but not the Austin Powers series.

Ha. Ha. Ha.

You might want to tell me then: other than Mike Meyers, what other actor played multiple roles in the series?

You're joking right?

Anyone paying attention would spot Michael McDonald, Charles Napier (who admittedly is playing two similar characters) and Neil Mullarkey reappearing throughout the three films. Eric Winzenreid and Kevin Cooney are a little more obscure (thanks IMDB common cast/crew search) though I do remember Winzenreid reappearing in the third film but never knew the guy by name before today.

And a little extra credit: Myers didn't mind recasting Chris Farley in two different parts in the Wayne's World films.

So yes, your point is very much an invalid one, and now your smug little response makes you look even more foolish.

Like someone arguing about cast members in Austin Powers three months later.

usa Austin Powers Shagadelic Edition = Region Free

usa Austin Powers Collection Triple feature = Region Free << this one i went for
same edition but usually priced lower

-------------------------------

all the UK individual releases are Region B locked

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery>>>Region B locked << this one i went for
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me>>>Region B locked
Austin Powers in Goldmember>>>Region B locked

from what i can see a collection boxset was never issued to UK market.
----------------------------------

if you are in the UK and want completeness do what i did...

1/.... buy the triple feature as its the cheapest priced...

from Amazon.com currently...
Items: GBP 6.80
Shipping & handling: GBP 4.41
Total before tax: GBP 11.21
Estimated tax to be collected: GBP 0.00
Order total: GBP 11.21

or

from all you music on Amazon.co.uk a recommended import seller for 10.95 inc UK Del

or

that same recommended seller is selling on play.com slightly cheaper @£10.70 free uk shipping listing says Region A but ignore that.

2/.... buy the uk edition of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery as its got a longer cut of the film with many replaced bits that were cut for the usa market and some alternative bits too.

this title currently falls under the Get Two Blu-ray for £10* on amazon co.uk. so grab is for a £5 while its cheap as its £8 to £9 everywhere else such as zavvi & ebay nothing on play.com.

hope that helps in some way...all prices were accurate as of 16.00pm 14/1/2015

Still haven't gotten this because other titles on my buy list out rank the set when I'm buying Blu-rays, The Spy Who Shagged Me is on Amazon Prime and I had a feeling the aspect ratio was wrong(I've never owned the films on any format) and come to find out it's open matte and the frame is pushed up slightly on Amazon:

Hey guys, does the older set contain separate cases for the films? or is it just a normal case with three BDs in it?

In the US the original release was 3 standard BD cases with individual artwork inside a slipbox. The subsequent releases have just used a 3 disc case and at times a slip cover for all 3 films.
