I hooked up one of these for my dad over the weekend, and gotta say I liked the Yamaha receiver and interface.

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...ETYP=ATTRIBUTE

It's not much, but he originally came home with a DVD changer HTiB without any additional audio inputs. He is excited, so that's all that matters!

I think I will be very happy with the V663 and UPA-2 combo after setting his up.

I replace my onkyo with the 663 for its pre-outs & was amazed at the difference there was with the sound ~ (nothing against onkyo) !!
Jason I can't wait to hear what you think !!

At the moment I told her I want to get an amp in the future, but this reciever would allow me to hold off for a while cause it is much more powerful. I told her this reciever has pre-outs so I could hook up an amp in the future, something I cannot do with the Sony. But I explained that with the Sony it is prolly pushing out about (what do you think) 50 watts RMS, 60 peak, maybe. And that with the Marantz at 90 or 100 watts listed, it is pushing out about 86 and 96 RMS so everything should be more powerful and that it has better DACs so it would have a sharper and better sound overall. Plus that it is a High-End receiver, and not a mid-level reciever that we have. Although the Sony is a great receiver for $357!

She understood power & features..... that is all that mattered. I think though I will keep the receiver and get a set of polk 6750s for the bedroom. who knows.

I am sure I will be overly pleased! I loved my previous receiver for movies, but for serious 2 channel audio listening you could definitely hear the strain at louder volumes. That is what I am hoping to alleviate at this point.

Actually, I need to do some home repairs(sod) and then also my wife has a F'd up tooth so I want to pay whatever I need to in order to get that fixed, Ins will pay for some of coarse, but they wont cover it all, she cracked a tooth in half and they removed part of it and put a temp cap on there. Then I want to pay for next years potential Hawaii trip if there is enough money left, otherwise I'll just pay off some bills and pay for xmas if I can't get hawaii paid for.

See, I haven't had any issues with 2 channel, maybe because the Energys are easier to drive then the MA's or something, but with movies.... My older brother has a 1609 Denon, and it drives movies better and it doesn't do audio via hdmi, it doesn't do HD audio either, he uses an optical connection and I swear it is just as good if not better. His weighs a lot and its massive.

The Denon23XX is also on my list, but I think it would be to big to put anywhere.

Yeah, the one thing I noticed about the MAs is they seemed power hungry while auditioning. I had to turn them up a lot louder to get the same volume I was getting from other speakers. Once I got a volume match though....I chose my speakers. Don't get me wrong, they Sony made them sound great at lower volumes. I just want them to sound great all of the time.

The best thing is the resale on the Sony. I think I paid a little over $300 almost a year ago for it, I got a hell of a deal, and I turned around and sold it for $300 in a couple of hours.

I got a lot of enjoyment from it for the little amount I actually paid!

Make sure to take lots of pics and tell us your thoughts, as a "virgin" to separates like the rest of us. I'm jealous of your deal. Crazy, if you decide to unload some more equipment, make sure to let me know!
