BIslander, yea the sub works normally with 5.1 sources. It is set to auto mode, so it turns on when being used by the receiver.
LOTR- I dont listen to stereo music through it, just movies and tv.

I think I resolved the issue by running Audessey Dynamic EQ and now 2 channel sources are being used by all the speakers. I just keep running the setup and not getting it perfect to my liking. Close but not close enough. I think I need to research more on setting it up right.

That is exactly how I listen to 2-channel Stereo music myself. Without my subs. And that was the main reason why I bought my two front main speakers 23 years ago! (They are clean down to 25 Hz, totally sufficiant for most Music listening; 99%).

* I did experiment a lot with one sub, two subs, Audyssey, and all that Jazzzzzzzzz; at the end, my subs are not used during serious Stereo Music listening. This was chosen after very extensive listening analysis in my own room from my own set of ears, and my own speakers of course.

It's all about personal experimentation and preference indeed!
The more you experiment with sound, the more you know what to select for your own audio listening enjoyment. ...Only you, know best.
...Everything else is just cheap whiskey.

Default Upgrading!

I just purchased a Denon 4310CI, Infinity Primus P362 & the matching PC350. I cannot wait to hear the improvement in sound and detail. Moving to actual towers and a beefy center, plus 3-way design, I'm pumped! I'm also looking forward to messing with the MultEQ XT and the direct IPod USB playback.

Ya, I don't even live in a building myself, so no neighbors at all, for about half mile or more! ...I'm renting a mansion from a friend in the Oil business, but he's coming back to live there permanently (retirement).
...I need to find myself a new place soon. I'll probably end up somewhere in the nearest bush from the nearest city...

Maybe if you ask kindly enough he'll allow you to live in the garage.

I think he's wondering why the blue HD audio lights are not lighting up on his receiver. Most likely b/c he's got a fat PS3.

Geeezzz thanks mate! ...That now makes perfect sense.

Ponzone99, Awongus is absolutely right; your fat PS3 only send the High Res audio codecs (Lossless) converted to Linear Mutichannel PCM audio format, from (through) its digital HDMI output.
You might not have that cool little blue light shining from the front panel display of your Denon receiver, but you still get the FULL BENEFIT of those newer High Res Audio codecs (Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA). ...Without any loss of the high resolution audio whatsoever.
[In your PS3 (fat) you simply set the digital HDMI Audio out to LPCM, that's it!]
-> Your excellent Denon 2809 receiver's front panel display will read Multich PCM.

Maybe you should ask him to adopt you.

I've now had the Denon 4310CI for two days and can definitely hear some sound quality improvements over the 2310. Not to say that the 2310 isn't good, it's great however, I attribute the improved quality to a few things. One the build quality seams slightly improved, definitely a larger power supply to handle the added power rating. It is packed with additional motherboards, larger amp cooling vents, which definitely explains the added weight. It does run slightly warmer but by all means not hot. The MultEQ XT is more involved then the normal MultEQ, which I'm sure where most of the improvements come from. First the sub adjustment is more involved, requiring you to make volume adjustments before the EQ process takes place. The added filters for the satellites, plus the additional two mic locations seem to really smooth out some frequency adjustments between both the satellites and the sub. Everything seemed blended together better, sound quality and clarity were definitely there, along with great imagining between speakers. Direct IPod USB connection through the front panel is great. The restorer function works very nicely on improving your IPod sound quality. I have yet to try the HD radio but will shortly. I'm still trying to figure out and understand the use and when the AL24 Plus Processing goes into effect and if it does so automatically? Any explanation would be appreciated!

I will say, even as silly as it is. I do miss my blue HD light... LOL! I really have no interest with the DSX software so I suppose I'll just have to deal. LOL!

Yes it is! (It's 50% off.) ...But just be aware that it does not have Preouts (just in case you'd like to have more power in the future by adding an external power amp(s)).

LOL, that is true, it sure does cost more.

Then maybe pitching a tent in the backyard would work, if not sounds like you're S.O.L.

Ordered the 4311 yesterday and it is supposed to ship today. I cannot wait to get it set up! However, coming from an H/K AVR3600, the learning curve will be very steep. This is my first Denon ever.
