Finally got my copy of "W." today after ordering on the release date of 02/10/2009. Not a great turn around time. Not sure why CH doesn't anticipate a large order for these $13.99 sales and keep more in stock.

Well my final Blu-ray from the 2008 60% off sale should ship any day now. Really hoping there's another free shipping 50% off or better sale coming up some time soon. I've actually finally caught up and watched all of the Blu-rays in my collection now.

Well, received my package today. Only got two of the four I ordered. Other two were back ordered. I'm fine with that, just as long as I'm not charged for shipping again on the other two when they show up.
I was incredibly disappointed in the packaging. Came in a standard large white envelope, no protection at all. The disc in the Pineapple Express case was loose and I could hear something rattling around before I opened the packaged envelope. Opened the case and disc was of course loose. There's a scratch on it near the outer edge. I'll have to watch it first to see if it will be an issue. As for the Incredible Hulk, it came with the 3-D slip cover, but the Blu-ray case had been repackaged with the cling wrap you get when buying used Blus. Plus, when I opened the case the digital copy was in a separate paper sleeve, which was mangled by being too wide, the collar of the case warping it when it was closed. The disc looks to be okay, but I'm just wondering if this movie is supposed to come with a paper sleeve of the digital copy? It looked like someone had been into it... Not a very good start with chcanada.com, but we'll see how the rest of my order comes and if I get it in a timely fashion before I reserve judgment. |

For chcanada.com, you only need to buy 2 DVD's in 1 year and then you can cancel. The prices seem to be cheaper on this site. (Unless your paying for the MSRP price and not the RED tagged price.) For columbiahousecanada.com, you need to buy 4 movies by 1 year and then you can cancel. The prices MSRP are more on this site. They have 2 different setups, but are owned by the same people. Unless I am missing something here. |

2 different clubs dude.....simple as that.
One has free membership & an introductory special, but longer terms, the other has a membership fee (currently being waived) with shorter terms. Do I really need to explain it more? |

Lots of companies own their competition. Look at Procter & Gamble or almost any car company. It doesn't make it a scam. Companies do this all the time to better focus on different markets among other reasons.

I think there's an important term of membership you're missing.
For the columbiahousecanada.com club, it's more the traditional columbia house. You get 4 or 5 discs up front for virtually nothing, thus they require a larger commitment from you with somewhat higher prices. The CHCanada.com website is, in my opinion, more a regular retail site. Sure, you are "required" to buy 2 discs per year, but that's hardly a chore given their great prices and low shipping. Other than that, you don't get anything extra, no inital budle of discs, no monthly selections to which you have to respond etc. You see a disc you want, you order it, and pay for it. That's it. It's all explained throughout this thread, several times (and here again by me). |
