Hi 94GTStang,
if you would decide to get Denon 1910 you can try to get it for $420 from Vanns.com offering your price, it worked for me a few months ago

Thanks! I was looking at that one and an onkyo 607 as well.

There is an open box onkyo 607 on newegg for like $260.

if you want to save some $$$ and don't mind a refurb receiver, considerwww.dakmart.com. they're an authorized denon seller and have the 1909 right now for $329 with a one yr warranty. if they had this going back when i bought my yamaha, i would have jumped all over it. i think they were selling the refurbs for $420 or something then, but since the '10 model denons have come out the '09s are going down in price. also consider the 789 if you're going the denon route. it's pretty much the exact same as the 1909, just a few bucks cheaper...

I don't have any problem getting a refurbed receiver if the price is right. I've found that sometimes if it says refurbed, it might just have been an open box or perhaps something was missing out of the box and sent back.

If they still have that deal come a few months down the road, I'll look into it more. Luckily receivers aren't like the energy speakers where they are discountinued and you have to jump on a deal before they are all gone

another note: I need a receiver that isn't going to need a Phd to set up lol.

Edit: ok I'm not going the onkyo route. Just not reading anything really awesome about them.

So contenders: yammy 665 and the denon 790

Default Power Indicator Light on S10.3

The blue light on the front of my new S10.3 sub worked for about 2 weeks, then went away. The sub still works; it just feels wrong for that light to go bad so soon. The folks at Energy say "it's the retailer's problem" but it's really my problem, since the retailer was Vann's in Montana and I'm about 1000 miles from there. Does anyone know if that light might be user-replaceable? Who wants to ship a subwoofer across the country for a bulb?

both good choices....

the 790 probably has the edge over the 665 in sound quality, and it would most definitely send more power to your c500s...

the 665 would be easier to set-up, pretty much plug and play, is probably not very far behind the 790 in sound quality. the thing the yamaha has going for it are the pre-outs if you ever want to spring for an external amp...

i debated long and hard over almost the exact same receivers(denon 789/1909 and yamaha rx v663/765). if the refurb 1909 would have been $329 a fee months ago, i would have gotten the denon, but it wasn't, so i scored a good deal on the 765. now i'm happy i did b/c i have the option to add on to it with external amps.(i'm still trying to get used to the adcom, actually) in a few weeks maybe i'll figure that i don't need an amp, but if you lurk around these forums enough, you'll catch the bug...

my advice to you would be go for the denon for the xtra power. the 665 in my opinion is a good receiver, but i was just scared away because of the weight differential from the year before's 663, so i went w/ the 765 which is pretty much the successor to the 663 w/ 2 more hdmi inputs. having the option to add an external amp is great, but to be honest my system sounded great w/o it and pretty much the same with it. i'm still intrigued as to how a denon would sound in my set-up, but now i'd pretty much have to save for a model with pre-outs...just in case...

Thanks, 'Stang; page 442 of AVSForum. Bottom line: user replaceable for under $10.00 BUT voids the warranty. If when the warranty is up I care enough, maybe...

Thanks for the info. Come time, if the 1909 still has a nice price tag to it, I'll get it. I highly doubt I will use the amp option, so the Denon 790 will be next on the list. I'm sure I can find someone on my Mustang forum that works at Best Buy and I could swing an employee discount The Yammy 665 is third on the list just because of the great following.

Thanks again for making all the choices easier and the homework minimal!

hey guys. new to the board. thinking really hard about buying the energy take classic 5.1 speakers (http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Classic...147853&sr=8-2). i have heard good things about them. i like the fact that they are satellite, no wires. so i am looking for a nice speaker set that i wont have to upgrade for several years. looking for something to enjoy movies on, directv/football on. what are opinions of those who own this set? better to go another way for same price? thanks in advance guys, i have no idea which way to go for speakers and AVR.

no satellite just means they are small and carry pretty much just the high frequencies

If you are open to a much better system, I have some suggestions.

Try these.

Look over to the right of the screen, do you see where it says "Bundle Up and Save"? That system right there would be really nice. They have good frequncy response for small speakers, better then what you are looking at. You would set them to small and the crossover at 90 hz and you would get good bass out of a 4.5" speaker and then the bass from the sub would cover all the lower frequencies. These speakers would be smoother and more detailed.

If you want something bigger and more powerful you could do these and this. And then just save up and add surrounds and a Premier Acoustics PA-120 or Acoustic Audio HD-Sub12 subwoofer later. It would take more time, but the payoff would be so much better.

Good recommendation Callas I lke your idea, in my case considering the fact that some receivers are only capable of doing 20hz increment i would go to 100hz set to small speakers as per Energy recommendation if 90 is unacheivable by your receiver, these babies can truly take some beating. I put em to the test in one of my FS in Montreal region and god do they sound great and have an 80-23 000hz +/-3db response.

As much power as a C-500 in such a small box is insane but After seeing the Magnet size on these puppies I was very impressed to say the least something like 3.75inches diameter and 1.5 inches thick.

Nice! Those CB's are sweet looking and, from the reviewer's take, sweet sounding as well.
