Auto or pulse rifle? I've been using the pulse rifle to play through the story and love the head shots. Haven't tried MP just yet though.

Doing public events and getting Gold tier. Gives you 4 marks each time for completing them.

Did The Summoning Pits strike for the first time tonight. Was pretty useless in the kills department compared to the two randoms I was with. In the end I was just a glorified medic reviving them when I could. About ready to start the Venus strikes which will probably kick my ass further.

Just finished the story tonight (and hit 21). Overall, I found it pretty enjoyable. It set the foundation for lots of stuff in the future.

[Show spoiler]Wish there was a little more with the Awoken. I was enjoying the brother/sister duo. Hope they expand that story later. The last 3-boss battle was a little more than I cared for, but still ok. I got the stranger's pulse rifle and tried it out. Seems ok. I've been using a scout rifle the whole time.

Ended up maxing out my Vanguard rank for the week using the "schedule". Now just to rank up two more times for Vanguard Rank 3.

If you get an exotic bounty, do not do the Shattered Memory Fragment, I picked this one, I believe Grim did also. You'll get Pocket Infinity fusion rifle, the charge time on it is horrendous and it only has a 3 shot clip. Granted, I have not fully upgraded it to full auto, but I believe it will full auto like the pulse rifles and not be worth a damn.

you should upgrade it. i played against a guy in MP that had it upgraded. seems pretty good

Really sucks that you can only have 1 exotic weapon and armour equipped.

I'm guessing that as the expansions come then we'll be allowed to wea more in order to increase our level and play harder missions/strikes/raids etc. What's the cap right now? 30?

Also looks like we could get a 3rd subclass added in. Otherwise what is the point of the spare slot next to the other two?

I really am conflicted about this game; absolutely visually stunning, superslick action, zero story, tedious and repetitive gameplay, no background on the ingame world... I'm level 13 at the moment and doing mission 3 on Venus. If a compelling narrative doesn't kick off soon, this game is heading to CEX next week.

I'm officially done with farming for engrams. I've done this for the last few days and have yet to get a legendary engram drop. Plenty of uncommons and rare though. I've got a full set of both 'rare' weapons and armor.

I'll take my chances of getting my Vanguard/Faction reputation up and just buy the legendary gear. The time I've wasted farming I could have gotten my reputation up to rank 3 and already have legendary gear.

In the crucible supposedly level advantages and gear differences do not matter, yet I frequently find myself with direct grenades or headshots doing practically no damage (I've seen a lot of 2s for some reason).

So what causes that? Is there some 90%+ damage resistance buff?

I frequently get one hit killed yet can't kill anybody without using my special, because my weapons do no damage, even on headshots. I'd rather see nothing (IE a miss) than a yellow 2 floating over their head.

The whole problem with the story is, you have to bungie.net read the grimoire cards for it. This was pointed out in the beta, having to go to bungie.net for the story was dumb. They should have had a place in the tower, a library or something to read these story cards in game. Then there is listening to all the NPCs on them filling in story elements, again, tedious.

From what I've read in my cards,

[Show spoiler]the story seams to be we are in a simulation made by the Vex, that explains why Mercury is a machine planet and others. The Nine are the research staff on Europa studying the Vex. I need to find more cards on the Darkness to figure out just what they/that is...

Are you using a weapon with minimal impact? My understanding is that in PvP only the impact stat affects damage, the actual attack number of a weapon is meaningless because level advantages are disabled.

Yeah, I had to switch to a shotgun. It's a one hit kill, if you are close enough.


I'm not sure everyone in the above discussion is talking about the same thing regarding Vanguard rank. There are Vanguard Marks, which are the currency, which max out at 100 per week. I don't think they effect rank. Then there is Vanguard Reputation, which does not max out, and goes toward rank. Level 24 strikes give you 25 reputation points per mission. Patrol missions can give you a few and bounties give you a few. So probably the most efficient thing to do is pick up Vanguard bounties, go to Earth and do patrol missions and farm engrams while waiting for public events to spawn. I need to get that rank up to 2 today. I'm close. I'll probably buy some exotic armor, too, or maybe a heavy weapon.

We got close on that Strike last night. It's too bad it ended the way it did. I'd be happy to try again today or tonight.

Also I've been taken out by Hand Cannons and Rocket Launchers so those are pretty much instant kills. I've taken down a couple opponents with one shot of the fusion rifle, and of course a well placed sniper shot will take me down though I've yet to do it myself.

I have seen death rain down on me a lot in the crucible. So I have a lot of experience.
