I have a hunch the humans make the axe for him...that would be believable and pretty cool actually.
From the trailer, I get the impression it's an ancient relic he finds in the Hollow Earth beneath Skull Island.

Godzilla is crafty though and has experience on his side, he's a survivor, he'll be more than ready for this fight with a NEW, surprisingly (to big G) strong opponent (for the love of God, stop comparing previous era Godzilla opponents with this new, current story line upcoming bout - they have ZERO to do with it, duh).
If this movie has nothing to do with the previous eras, why are we going to see Mechagodzilla, isn't he from a previous era? Wasn't King Ghidora from a previous era? That argument isn't credible. Godzilla isn't some new era movie. You might be young and don't know that, Godzilla 2014 and Kong Skull Island was probably the first time you saw a Godzilla movie.

Dude, he's doing sign language with a little girl. Next, he will start talking. I wouldn't be surprised if he or one of his kind forged the ax.

If I remember correctly, Jurassic Park toys did the samething during the 90s. So I don't know. I wouldn't put too much thought into this.

Saw two TV spots during tonight's 911 and 911: Lone Star.

One of them showed Kong jumping on Godzilla's back in the neon colored city.

Umm, some of these titans (Mothra, Rodan, etc) have been INTRODUCED in this NEW series of films and are NOW part of the current story line, which will N-O-W also introduce Mecha as a character in GvK...point being we don't have to imagine them or factor in their previous appearances in movies from the dark ages as they're NOW established characters, not PHANTOM monsters never mentioned or shown thus far as in your thinking. I'm 52, grew up watching Godzilla movies - ok, admittedly not HUGE fan, just casual, but even I (and clearly the majority of others here) understand this new "monsterverse" is NOT 100% faithful to Godzilla's previous canon, they're just incorporating some elements of it. Try again perhaps?

It's a lost cause. But because the humans are being annoying in this, then Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno have to show up because it's the same exact thing?

Dude doesn't understand the concept of a "remake"

They're giving away the movie. We already know who's going to win. The director has told us too much.
