I'm sure there are some I haven't seen (and it's debatable whether or not Toys and Hook are comedies), but yeah. Especially that one. ^

His dramatic movies/roles are far better.

I love Birdcage but it's mostly because of Nathan Lane, Azaria, Hackman, and Wiest.

I never really got the love for Hook, other than Dustin Hoffman owning the film.

The Tink/Peter shipping was always weird AF to me.

Kinda burnt out on period piece sword epics, and his latest Alien films didn't do the franchise any favors. I can't hate on him as a director, though.

I'v not watched A Good Year but yes I'd agree I'v never seen him make a bad film and honestly in some respects I felt the Alien prequels showed more effort than he'd given in other recent films as they did often have a bit more visual flair to them.

The elephant in the room for both those films though is that the scripts are absolute garbage, Abrams clan style ADHD edgelord nonsense, other elements of the production and some of the acting being effective just makes that stand out all the more.

Id put the first two ahead of Signs. That movie started good but got worse and worse as it went. The ending was eye-roll worthy. The first two films you listed are damned good though.
