CONSIDER IT BOUGHT. Now whats the chance they just cancel the order?

Thanks to me trading in my college textbooks that my school would give me $5 for in total, I've been able to get Blow Out, Wings of Desire, LA Noire, and Solaris with amazon credit. Thumbs up.

It was a pretty clean print. Check out the youtube link to see the film. It really is only notable because it's his first effort. If it was any other director it probably wouldn't garner a look.

What was interesting from the presentation was their burying the legend that Kubrick rounded up and burned every print he could. It's so hard to find simply due to natural attrition of prints from that time period. The implication is that many films from that period were outright lost: many films were being made and disitributors weren't caring for prints once they finished with them. That's why there's basically only one or two around, and Kodak probably has the best one.

No, I pre-ordered the blu-ray. It seems silly not to get the DVD at that price for even a gift or something, but I didn't.

Eh, makes it look dark and ruminative, where the actual movie is fast-paced crime action.
I'm convinced Criterion is now deliberately trolling us with their covers.

Is it bad that I first heard of "If..." from a Monty Python sketch?

THAT was laserdisc. (Back when every other studio had lost their last remaining interest in releasing them, and Voyager had to.)
THIS is now.

Going back to the late 90's of "Criterion will release it, 'cuz they release EVERYTHING!" is bad enough, but now we're going back to 1988??

It's also currently available to stream on NetFlix...this title doesn't appear to be on that list of 26 Criterion films going away on May 26.

The "old" back-catalog Criterions seem to be going away, but the recent New ones--Kes, Topsy Turvy, The Mikado, White Material, Fish Tank, etc.--seem to be alive and well and still available.
Think it's just relicensing, or at least we haven't seen the complete disappearance of Criterion on Netflix. (As long as Criterion.com has their own streams on their website.)

Film noir is becoming very well represented in the collection

If only the other studios would get on the ball and release their noirs. . .

This is an area where I can't really blame studios for going slow. My immediate reaction to any mention of noir releases is 'hell yes, I'd be all over that' but the truth of the matter is with the exception of a relative of handful of titles (Double Indemnity, The Big Sleep, Out of the Past, The Asphalt Jungle, etc) what I really mean is I'd be all over it as soon as it dropped below ten bucks.

The Criterion Cast put up a list on their site just recently. It should be easy to find on their front page.

Here ya go.
