When I was young during the VHS days I didn't like the black bars either. A friend of mine that was into laserdiscs showed me Suspiria letterboxed and we compared it to a pan & scan version. Once I saw how much information was missing I became an instant fan of the black bars.

Not really. I was a difficult child growing up and wasn't much better in my 20's, but we got past all that and had a really good relationship. We would have the occasional quibble, but it was out of love. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with Autism that I realized how hard it was for her to have raised me. We don't come with manuals, so our parents do the best they can. My dreams are there at times to haunt me. As if i'm not haunted enough when I'm awake.

Yeah, 65" TVs have really gone down in price even 5 years ago when I bought my last TV. It's the higher screen sizes that hadn't come down until now. I will say the 65" OLED TV I bought ended up costing me over $7,000. Well above the market price in the store. But that's really my fault, so to speak. I had gotten the TV back in 2017 when my mom was declining in health. I didn't have enough for the 65" I saw in the store. I was there to get the 55". My mom was on my bank account (LONG STORY) and I didn't want to upset her by going over. I was covered if I did, but I still didn't want to upset my mom if I didn't have to. They said I could apply for credit. I cannot get credit, but I applied anyway as a lark.

I got the credit and the TV. Little did I know it was a Rent-A-Center type of thing. I was going to get it paid off in the 3 months time that I had when my mom passed away. The rest is HISTORY. Suffice it to say, these last 16 years almost haven't been the easiest. I make no excuses or look for sympathy. I just tell it like it is. I don't sugarcoat anything. Even when it's my fault. Funny story about that 65" TV. One night I was watching one of "THOSE" movies and fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning there was a big Robbie 2 burned into my screen. The menu screen had been playing all night long and caused the burn in. Learned my lesson.

Try this: Cut a square into a cardboard box just big enough to fit snugly on your head, then put it on. Imagine if you had to go through life looking through that square, cutting off the sides of your view. Same principle with widescreen. Square is perfectly fine for newscasts and sitcoms, for movies shot wider than 1.37:1 (fullscreen) you're gonna want to see the entire picture.

I guess cheap TVs don't have screensavers? My screensaver kicks in if there's no activity or static screens after a few minutes. No risk of burn-in. My TV even has a pop up warning me the screen is too bright. It pays to spend a little more on equipment.

I'm autistic too, Asperger's Syndrome to be exact. I was diagnosed at 33, but I knew from at least the age of 8 that I was profoundly different from everyone around me. No one knew how to help, and I quickly got the impression that some in my own family had either lost interest quickly, or never had it to begin with. By the time I was 20, I felt like darkness personified, because I was so lonely and angry inside. A fight with my Mom led to my living in a homeless shelter for 5 weeks, though to be honest it felt like 5 years. It took a long time for me to really forgive her for that; learning I wasn't crazy or sick helped soften my heart a lot. I still struggle with anger and an inferiority complex most days though - I think it goes with the autistic territory. I read not long ago that Asperger's affects 0.6% globally, which would be 54 million from 9 billion.

I knew I forgot one! My bad.

Been a while since I opened my Snapchat. Added a few photos to my story last night (from the Knicks game) and my crazy ex who still follows me (for some reason) viewed it.

That's the thing. This wasn't cheap equipment. It was a $2,000 LG OLED TV. Supposed to be one of the best. My $1,799 Hisense is better than that OLED. Fool me once.

I have Asperger's Syndrome, but I am not officially diagnosed with it. They don't use that term for diagnosis anymore, as it's under the Autism umbrella. They say I'm high functioning. But tell me, what normal person (male especially) spends almost $700 dollars on dolls? I may be "high functioning", but in relation to normal folks I am anything but "high functioning". My therapist is helping me deal with all this and see that it isn't a bad thing. And I know that it isn't. It's just hard to get that across to family. Also, I keep learning new things everyday. In like how some of my behaviors can be attributed to my Autism. I make no apologizes, excuses, or look for sympathy. I merely tell it like it is.

I still use the original term, for two reasons. First, I haven't seen any conclusive evidence that Hans Asperger aided the Nazis in their child experiments. Second, the phrase "high functioning autism" is so broad, it could mean almost anything...to the point it's practically an insult.

As for your own collecting hobby, trust me - I'd do the same without apology, if I had the money and a space to display my figures. But being on SSI for over 20 years means I'm on a very limited income, and my room is big enough for my bed, desk, office chair, dresser, and three small Blu-Ray shelves - that's pretty much it.

Yeah....that was my avatar way back in the day. Been doing a Lost marathon and just made it to season three. I thought it was fitting.

I was at Uncle Giuseppe's yesterday and picked up a few things. I really enjoyed their meatball sub off the hot bar.

Also picked up: spaghetti muffins (will be trying tomorrow for the first time), sausage and peppers, meatball dinner with potatoes, whoopie pies, spring pasta salad anddd a few slices of pizza.

Thanks again for the recommendation. The place is legit and I love their dining area upstairs.

You can download the app and get updates on when sf gets his packages. There is also a link for a live feed so you can watch him open the packages and then see that look of disgust when he gets another batch of scratched discs

And sf, you said UG is a restaurant/deli whatever and also a store? Or a store with a deli? One of the two I think...

Road House is a possibility (trouble is, whenever I see that film title I keep thinking of the Family Guy gag ).

A feast fit for a king. Now you'll have something to do while you wait. Silver lining, Wabo. That's what they call me.

Regarding your 'new' avatar sfmarine, I've never seen Lost, so I was instead thinking of some other Terry O'Quinn screen credits (The Stepfather I and II and the television series Millennium).

That was some sad news reading last weekend about actors Richard Chamberlain and Bruce Glover passing away. I watched in tribute to the former last night, the first episode of Dr. Kildare (from the Warner Archive's DVD release of Season 1 (it's a standard definition master, but I could tell some restoration work had been done (the odd white speckle but I was impressed by it) and the end credits ended with (I assume) the original closing MGM Televison logo).

May watch again this week Diamonds Are Forever in tribute to Bruce Glover (who played one half of the memorable Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd).

On a separate note, belated birthday greetings to Christopher Walken and Herb Alpert for yesterday (the latter turned ninety). With Herb Alpert, I think of the Tijuana Brass, Casino Royale (the sixties film), the music single Rise (one of my favourite seventies songs) and the trumpet solo during Never Say Never Again's end credits.
