Grain is not the be-all end-all of release quality.

EDIT: Lnds500, thanks for the pics.

^you're welcome!

The Cinderella Review has been updated

I took the liberty of contacting Kenneth Brown and directing him to the screenshots posted on the Disney Classics Screenshot Comparison thread. Here's part of the discussion (shared with his permission - consolidated and edited for ease of comprehension)

There is a spoiler in the first post.
The screenshots are all taken from the Blu-ray and have just been shrinked. There are tons more here and there on the forum. Tell me what you think and thanks a lot for responding!

Hm. I sent a few e-mails to see if I could dig up some specific answers from deep within Disney, but for now, I updated my review and linked to the Disney Classics Screenshot Comparison thread. I don't have a lot to go on, so the best I can do (at least at this point) is mention it and link to your thread for those who are interested

I cover all Disney animated releases so feel free to shoot me a PM when future releases are inbound if info is available in your thread or elsewhere. I'd love to use some of the info you gentlemen have compiled, for my own education, the accuracy of the review and to give the thread more exposure. It's a valuable discussion to be had.

Oh yeah I read that in the review. I don't know why the screenshots look soft in the review

One thing I'm curious is why Snow White/Pinocchio aren't released for Itunes?? I mean the other films (I.E Tigger Movie, Lady/Tramp, Bambi, Walt's Alice, etc) got Itunes release except for Pinocchio/Snow White

"While it might not have the intricacies of their later instant animated classics to come, there are some terrific set pieces especially a climactic sky chase and the final confrontation amid the clockwork workings of Big Ben where the first combination of computer graphics and hand drawn animation can be found"
--HTF review

*sigh* The Black Cauldron is the first DAF to combine computer animation with hand-drawn animation. Mouse Detective combined hand-drawn animation with a CGI *environment*, and that's the real achievement.

Edit here is the other one.

Please note Disney's facebook for Peter Pan lists it as a diamond edition.
Awesome!

I don't think Aladdin is out of the diamond edition line. I feel they're bumping it to fall 2014 to make a 3d version of it since it's probably one of the last diamond edition films that would make sense to make 3d versions of. They did it with all the other renaissance films, so why not this one???

Agreed. It's pretty obvious, plus the synergy created with the upcoming ALADDIN Broadway show.

That makes a lot of sense. Even if it won't come back out in theaters it already had the remastering for IMAX why not this?

Wouldn't it be ridiculous if the 3D remasters stop being popular and Disney cancels Aladdin 3D (if and when it happens) just like they did with its IMAX release?

Booklet inside CINDERELLA has an ad stating POLLYANNA is coming to Blu. Didn't know that, looking forward to it. It's a very, very good movie.

Oh god, isnt the Disneys California Adventure production of Aladdin proof enough that Disneys Aladdin doesnt Work as a big budget musical? After all that show itself is a condensed version of a earlier rejected.attempt at a broadway production.

Judging by the throngs that line up for it every day, I think you're not exactly in the majority with that opinion. Nothing wrong with that, but that show packs them in every day, and my wife loved it. Because we booked through Disney, we had VIP seating, but good people on Disney forums told us not to sit in the front seats, but the first row of seats behind the main aisle. So, when the "Prince Ali" parade started, we were right there as close to it as you could get to it, while everyone else sitting in the "VIP" section had to turn around in their seats to view it (lesson being, do your research before you go the parks, folks), and it was pretty cool, to say the least. Alan Menken penned a new song for Jasmine for that show, and the "Whole New World" carpet sequence was also a bit of a wowser. And the gentleman playing the Genie truly made the part his own, instead of trying to mimic Robin Williams. As far as theme park shows go, it's the best I've seen, and it's probably why there was a bit of an outcry from Disneyland fans when Disney announced plans to replace it with a Toy Story show. The ensuing sturm and drang convinced Disney to scuttle those plans, and Aladdin still plays there, to this day.

The Broadway show won't simply port that version over -- we'll see what happens. But the California Adventure show is not a turkey by any stretch, it was one of the highlights of our trip (among many).

Oh yeah the IMAX rerelease was canceled, I wouldn't be surprised if Monsters Inc. was the last 3D rerelease from Disney, it seemed like a great idea to revisit movies in the big screen but it just didn't work for 3D. 2D only wouldn't have made much improvement over profits either. I mean I would still love to see rereleases but a 2D one will be nice

The restoration was apparently already done last year. Will this be a 50th anniversary edition?

The Aladdin show there is very popular though
