I was in the Scarborough Town Centre location today and I noticed that their Kino Lorber titles changed in price - and the prices are now staggeringly higher.
Dressed to Kill 4K was $43.99 and now $49.99. Titles such as Clambake and The Children's Hour were previously $24.99 are now $39.99. Most titles seemed to be higher by $5 to $15 each. |

I don't know why Canadian's are being hit with tariffs... aren't we the good guys!? Hopefully through all this we can bypass the USA and just order straight from the disc manufacturers in Mexico lol

As far as I can tell there aren’t any. If there were it would be our government imposing a counter-tariff on us. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-...s-tariffs.html Last edited by AVfile; 05-06-2025 at 03:47 PM. |

Folks, just so we’re clear, import tariffs are always, from a practical sense, imposed by the government on its own people. Its people are the ones who pay it, like a tax on top of the price of the good. It’s meant to compel citizens to switch to purchasing domestic products.
In the case of KL, though, it has nothing to do with Canada. They are an American company that produces their discs in Mexico. Once those discs are shipped to the KL office or warehouse, they are hit with a tariff by the US government. This in essence increases the overall cost of producing the disc, which is why they have raised their prices. Just because KL then reships the disc to Canada doesn’t make that initial tariff go away. Expect it to hit most labels sooner rather than later, even the ones that make their discs in Germany (because the U.S. has applied tariffs there as well). Just today, Deaf Crocodile announced they’ll be adding an additional tariff fee. They’re at least separating it out to make it transparent, and have said they’ll remove it if/when the tariffs are lifted. I suspect KL aren’t doing it that way because this leaves them the option of leaving prices as is if tariffs are removed and they determine it hasn’t affected sales drastically. But on that point I’m speculating |

That’s not a tariff though, per se, though it probably is related. I suspect the WOWHD packages getting it is due to increased CBSA scrutiny as part of this trade war. Technically those packages were always subject to additional taxes, they just weren’t getting hit.

The real problem is that the government never raised the tax-free exemption limit in all those years, despite inflation. $20 back then is worth $50 today. Not only is there the tax revenues and customs brokerage fees that I'm sure the government and couriers like to profit from. But it is also a way to try to get us to spend our money in Canada rather than the U.S. or elsewhere. That's my reckoning. JP |

Called some of my local Sunrise locations here in Edmonton yesterday to see if they had the new DVD box set of The Drew Carey Show. Only 2 of the locations I called had it, and they both had only one copy, and the copy at West Edmonton Mall was on hold for somebody, so I didn't ask for the price. I did call the only other location that had it, Kingsway Mall, and they didn't have it on hold, so I did ask for the price. It's $136.99. Should I go for it? I've never wanted a show to come to physical media as much as this one.

unless you don't like amazon or trust their shipping, it's 111.91, but that's 25.00 savings

Sunrise having a father's day sale on select titles. I didn't see all of them but picked up Joker 2 for $12.99. Furiosa was also that price.
