I can't believe this is almost out when I never got the chance to see it on standard BD that I bought years ago for my Panasonic ST60 to watch on.

Kate's just fine. It's Leo who looks a bit young, no?

This thread finds increasingly bizarre ways to go off the rails each day. But that's not necessarily a criticism.

And it doesn’t hurt that they were both hot and looked great together on-screen.

That is why most people kept going back to see the film, not because of the spectacle of the sinking boat.
True, it's the love story. The sinking ship is just a background.
Chemistry, that's what matters. Without it it's just a ship hitting an iceberg.

No. I was responding TCFX bringing up a unrelated qualification in their response to me.

"Also, the notion or insinuation that attractiveness is intrinsically tied to vain behavior or "sleeziness" is completely ignoring common sense. Nobody dates a person they find to be ugly."

To the first part, I did not say any such thing. Although, I can now see why they leapt to that conclusion.

Then they followed it with that secondary qualification in regards to attractiveness and dating, which makes little sense in context of a thread that is purportedly intended to discuss principally on matters of PQ/AQ, as well about the film and it's narrative.

To whether anyone dates someone they find attractive or not is not something I brought up nor is it applicable to the aforementioned expected range of topics in this sub forum.

That is something they interjected in their response, which argues that both issues are intrinsically interrelated. Though they are not.

Back to your actual question, yes folks can comment on the attractiveness of a celebrity, irrespective of whether they may actually be able to date them or not.

My objection was the subsequent comments that were veering more into the objectification and mean spirited territory.

Besides, that sort of discussion has its own sub forum already, the "Celebrity Appreciation" threads.

Which if we are being honest does tend to focus mostly on female actors with a prevailing emphasis of pictures of them in more provocative poses rather than ones that are less provocative.

I personally make no objections to those photographs that of their own volition had memorialized.

Some other reviews :

http://www.dvdmg.com/titanic4k.shtml
Quote:
Titanic appears in an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 on this 4K UHD Disc. Though the Dolby Vision presentation usually looked splendid, a few anomalies impacted my overall impression.

Overall sharpness appeared excellent, with only a handful of exceptions. I got the impression the scan used a little noise reduction, and this occasionally made some shots seem a bit on the “smoothed out” side.

These tended to come mainly during lower light interiors, and the instances didn’t seem egregious, so the vast majority of the film offered tight delineation. Still, these examples created minor distractions on the rare times they occurred.

Jaggies and moiré effects were a non-factor, and no issues with edge haloes arose. Print flaws failed to appear, so the transfer never showed any specks, marks or other distractions.

With a warm, amber palette, colors were strong. Cameron suffused the film with a lovely glow that showed up nicely on this disc, and nighttime “sinking shots” also used a chilly blue well.

The picture consistently offered strong, vibrant and accurate hues. HDR gave these added range and punch.

Black levels appeared deep and firm, while shadow detail looked very good, an especially important factor since more than half of this film takes place at night. HDR brought extra impact to whites and contrast, though I occasionally thought some shots looked a tad too bright.

Ultimately, most of Titanic looked pretty darned terrific, and I probably nitpicked my criticisms. That said, Titanic offers as “A-list” a title as one can imagine.

As such, I thought it deserved an ultra-critical eye. This left my grade as a “B+” since the 4K didn’t deliver the consistently positive experience I expected.
And this one with some photos of the CE:

https://hd-report.com/2023/11/30/tit...dition-review/

Quote:
“Titanic” has finally been remastered in 4K, and this edition presents the movie in 2160p at 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio with High Dynamic Range color depth (up to 10-bits) provided via Dolby Vision and HDR10. The film played at variable bitrates averaging in the 40Mbps to 50Mbps range, although some peaks were noticed around 80Mbps.

To say “Titanic” in 4k is an improvement over 2k Blu-ray would be an understatement. There is so much detail revealed in 4k and with the added color depth from HDR that you have to see it to believe it. One example of missed detail is the scene in which Rose is about to jump from the Titanic. Closeups reveal dried tear drops down her cheek, and hair that whisps across her lips. Another scene that gains huge benefits from 4k/HDR is the engine room that has layers upon layers of detail (much of the scene was composed, by the way, but in such high quality it’s hard to notice).

The sunset shots of Jack and Rose render beautifully in HDR and are not overly done with color (just be sure your TV is set to “Cinematic” or “Film” mode rather than “Sports” or “Dynamic” because the color could get out of hand). Grain is perfect. There is no noise reduction or sharpening done to this video image. And, while being digital still maintains its analog feel.

I get it. Personally, I'm kinda flabbergasted it took them this long to get something like Titanic onto 4K, this should have happened years ago.

And then there's Young Guns which I thought would never get a 4K release, like, ever. The hope/thought never even entered my mind.

The 3D Blu is currently selling on Amazon for $26 (only 12 units left in stock, though).
If you are after it, I suggest you pick it up fast, as I don't know if it will be re-released at some point, like it happened with the original Avatar.

Even if you don't own a 3D TV, you can still watch the Open Matte version in 2D.
And if you ever decide to pick up a VR headset, sometime in the future, be it for gaming or for something else, you will be able to watch it in 3D with either PSVR, or BigScreen, Skybox or another Quest video player.

That, and also be sure to have Auto Motion or any Smooth enhancements turned off, to avoid that ugly 60/120fps soap-opera effect.

I'm torn on the Collector's set. I've seen unboxing videos and it's a thing of beauty for sure but it's SO pricey. The contents as a whole aren't worth that much. And although I despise those disc pockets, this was just going to be a display piece. I also ordered the regular version. Was going to order from Movies Unlimited and use their 25% discount but they didn't even have the set available (at least not when I searched). I think the discount code is now expired anyway.

I wouldn't recommend any of those, because: 1)Support for VR has been abandoned by Google and other software developers, including Oculus, 3 years ago. 2)These headsets overheats and dries phone batteries like there is no tomorrow (you wouldn't want to have your expensive phone explode) and 3)The image and FOV of these headsets is not always clear, and you will find yourself tinkering more with the IPD settings than actually watch|do something with the thing.

No one in the VR community recommend these anymore, as they cannot offer the same level of quality and power of a proper VR headset, like the Quest or the PSVR.
Trust me.

After some friends of mine tried one of those, they ended up getting a Quest or a PSVR, for gaming and 3D media consumption.

Standalone VR headsets like PSVR and the Quest, have been in the game for so long, now. And have come a very long way, since.
So much that even Cameron himself, in a recent interview, has said that he will definitely be very interested in trying VR for movie-making in the future.

The Quest 3 is like an Android tablet with a very interactive UI that mixes well with your real environment, it has a 120hz screen (so you don't get VR motion-sickness or nausea), an impressive FOV and level of clarity that makes you see things clearly, even if your IPD is not properly adjusted, and has 2 lenses capable of delivering 4K images in crystal-clear resolution.

I watched Avatar 2 in 3D, on the Quest.
It was identical to sitting in an IMAX theater with a giant tall screen in front of me.

I still have the 3D set as well, other than the 4-disc 2005 Deluxe Edition.
Those are already enough for the extras.
The 4K release is all that matters.

12 days to go, for me.

The MU code brought the price down to $111 and Paypal's Pay-In-4 further reduced the "burden" to $27 every 2 weeks. I'd say that's doable now
