Fact is, you don't have an answer. There's no reason in 2023 why multiple audio tracks can't exist on the same disc. There are thousands of examples of this.

That's not how QC works. One of the top 3 distributors is not just going to throw a sound file from 2018 onto a newly authored disc and just hope for the best. Everything gets QC'd, and the more complex the disc is the more money/time it costs to QC. The fact is, the 4K buying general public don't actually care about the DD5.1 mix, they care about Atmos and the small segment that wants the theatrical mix or for those whose hardware can't handle multichannel audio, the 2.0 mix is on the disc for those people. You asked "why did Warner do this." This is why. The 5.1 mix to Warner, was likely the least important of the three; they consider it inferior to the Atmos mix in terms of quality and marketability, and likely also inferior to the 2.0 mix for backwards compatibility purposes. Therefore if you were working on the disc and Warner's instructions were to use a maximum of two soundtracks given those priorities, Atmos and 2.0 would make the most sense.

...so then why not just author the disc in 2.0 back in 2018?

Again, you have some weird word salad answer without thinking in through. ANY modern receiver will fold 5.1 down to 2.0, so there's no need for a specific 2.0 track. If there was a need....(what do you think I'm going to say?)....they would have authored it in 2018!

So...again...there's no reason why WB would put out a 2.0 track in favor of a 5.1 track when there have been no complaints.

I already addressed this as well. I am not going to keep repeating myself. I gave you the most logical reasons for WB's decisions. You may not like them, but they do make sense.

To YOU, maybe, but judging from what you wrote, none of it makes sense.

Tell me one other time when a company went out of their way to modify their movie's contents in favor of a lesser value, and keep the same UPC.

Did the thread title just change or have I been oblivious to it (both equally likely)?

I have no problem with preferring the OG theatrical audio, was just explaining WB's decision process from an authoring perspective.

As a side note, most of the pro reviews either gave the Atmos on Superman 4K an outright clear win over the 5.1 (e.g. AVSFORUM, High Def Digest, Blu-ray.com) or called it a tie based on preference (e.g. Digital Bits). There is definitely no consensus from the pro sites that the 5.1 is better, if anything the consensus of the pro reviewers is that Atmos is the better track. I'm not saying that has to be anyone else's preference, but it is something to consider.

The new thread title is amazing but like, why did I get banned for previously mocking starmike? Guess I was ahead of my time.

Sony: "Let's reissue Air Force One in a steelbook and add Dolby Vision and fix the subtitles."

Warners: "Let's reissue Superman in a steelbook and remove the Dolby 5.1 audio and not fix the opening titles."

The Bits

************************
Sadly, we have some discouraging news to report today as well: It’s starting to appear as if Warner’s new Superman: 5-Film Collection is going to include Superman: The Movie without the rumored new video restoration, which was first reported to have been done by Jim Bowers of Caped Wonder. And while it appears that the new disc retains the previous (and ill-favored) Dolby Atmos mix—and does add Dolby Vision HDR (the original 2018 4K had HDR10 only)—it’s looking like the 5.1 Dolby Digital mix presenting the original theatrical 6-track 70 mm audio (and which is much loved by fans) has been dropped—either by error or by choice—in favor of the same 2.0 original theatrical mix that was available previously on Blu-ray.
************************

WB "forgot" to include the original tracks for all Batman movies, too, I don't know why some here feign surprise at what they do.

This company is atrocious, they have been doing these things for decades, enough with their revisionism and half-assed restorations...

Don't the laserdiscs also use the six-track mix?

When I look at The Bits now I don't see Dolby Vision mentioned, so it must have been corrected.

"Sadly, we have some discouraging news to report today as well: It’s starting to appear as if Warner’s new Superman: 5-Film Collection is going to include Superman: The Movie without the rumored new video restoration, which was first reported to have been done by Jim Bowers of Caped Wonder. He'd already reported that it was the 2018 picture transfer after getting a comment from WB.
