Quick question. I had a 60gb phat that went ylod on me about 5 months ago. I'll be buying a new ps3 tonight. Is it possible to use the same psn id on the new machine? I'm interested in making sure the multilayer progress I made on some games is moved to the new machine. Same with trophies.

![]() I've been meaning to get a second PS3 and this has given me an excuse now ![]() I can get a new reader for £50 and it's pretty simple to swap out so I'll end up getting one next year sometime. ![]() |

Anyway, I mailed off my broken PS3 and received a new one in, I kid you not, a week of sending it off. Since then my PS3 has worked very well given its been used anywhere from 3-5 days a week with the ONLY issue being that for a little while the sound and picture would cut out but as i mentioned this was a temporary issue and now it works flawlessly. I do get nervous though. Seemingly the old PS3s are slowly but surely crapping out. It makes me wanna backup everything on my harddrive ASAP. |

So... I emailed Sony to ask if I had to put back the 60GB hard drive if I sent it in for warranty service. (It has a 500GB hard drive in it normally.) I sent the email here.. http://us.playstation.com/support/ask/ They replied that if I had the PS3 (Still with the warranty seal though out of warranty) and I put back the original Hard Drive I could sent it to Sony and for $99+any taxes (there's no sales tax here) they would send back a 160GB slim. I would email them... they are nice. I would not mess with trying to make repairs or letting someone who isn't qualified try. It's just not worth it to me. If and when my 60GB fails I hope to exchange it for a slim for $99. (For now... it still works. ![]() -Brian |

Thats not a baaad deal actually. I could backup my current PS3 to an external harddrive, a 60gig that I put a 250gig harddrive in, wipe the 250gig harddrive clean afterwards then remove it and put the old 60gig harddrive back in and trade it in to Sony and get a Slim for a $100?...thats IF my current PS3 craps out of course.

HI Guys...I have a really newbish questions...
I have a 40-gb ps3 fat which I've primarily used for watching blus over the past few years. I don't game much, but just got Batman Arkham City, and I am being alerted that I have less than 500 mb hard disk space left. I don't have any music, pics etc stored in there... So what is taking up the space, games I've saved? If so where should I go to delete them? |

First, if you haven't already ejected the disc, try turning the main switch off at the back, and hold the eject button down as you turn the main switch back on. The disc should eject. Second, if your PS3 is an original 60 GB model, and the console is unmodified, Sony will either repair it for $99 or replace it with a 120 GB slim model for $129. I just sent in my original launch day 60 GB model to replace it with a 120 GB slim model. Go to Sony's PS3 web page, and follow the links under service. Or, you can start the process by calling their customer support number. If you call in, you must have your PS3 plugged in, so they can verify the problem over the phone with you. They will then send a shipping container for you to return your console for repair. It was tough to decide to exchange my 60 GB model for a slim, because I actually use the SACD playback and PS2 backward compatibility. However, I have my original brick of a PS2, and that still works perfectly. I am hoping the slim runs cooler, quieter, and has better reliability than my beloved launch day PS3. |

just for clarification, do they send a brand new unopened slim or a refurbished model?
I'd hate to be without a ps3 for a week while all the shipping took place but $100-$130 for a brand new slim is a great deal. however I don't know if I have my original warranty paperwork. I know I have the original receipt but not much else. |

A full reball is a more permanent fix for YLOD, but as it's a more invasive procedure, it has a higher chance of not being successful. EE doesn't charge you though, if they can't fix it; you're just out shipping and they'll return the unit, buy it from you and return any stuck discs left inside. If the reball does work, the PS3 "should" last longer than the originals, as it's reballed with lead, like any high heat emitting electronic component should, but Sony doesn't use lead anymore so they can meet some rediculous environmental compliance that's not actually law, as I understand it, it just looks good to their shareholders. Of course, even if the reball is successful, which apparently most are, something else can fail - I doubt Sony even wants them to last forever. The Slims aren't immune to YLOD either. There were reports within a year or so of the Slim's debute of people getting it. But as slims run much cooler, it's less likely to occur in a well ventilated area. |
