I watched Bram Stoker's Dracula on 4K disc yesterday. Man, that Atmos soundtrack is awesome! I also think I finally figured out my "sweet spot" preference for my dual subs.

It’s a very dramatic track. Loved it.

Haven't you been trying to turn the "4K streaming vs. fill-in-the-blank" threads into disc appreciation societies?

I just want to get the best results that I can when I do stream something. I have simply been asking those with more streaming experience than I have some questions about dedicated streaming devices.

Appreciate discs, you say? I added 36 titles on disc last month. How does that compare with your "disc appreciation" over the same period?

2020 had a lot of pretty nice releases but 2021 has been pretty slow so far. I was hoping we would get more remasters since the theaters aren’t profitable for the foreseeable future and they have a years worth of releases already pushed back.

25% REPORTED. I am not buying that for a second. Also along with the big studios not being the only ones, lets look at the big picture.

It is not just about cold hard cash to the copyright holder, it is also about employing workers.

This generates more sales. To follow a footprint of what makes a bluray is so far beyond the simplistic view of the shareholders.

There is a huge market for slipcovers for example which employs artists/inkers/glue factories etc...

Value is about a community and those sales are not even in the equation of the world you see.

A niche market - the word is an adjective describing the market:
Yeah and it was inaccurate to describe that 50% PLUS of the market.

Btw physical media is not a market. It will be there long after so called death of it, if it ever happens.

You mean the past where people own physical things since the beginning of time?

People don't trust one venture to own all their wealth for good reason. Only a fool would put all their eggs in one basket.

When it comes to physical media there are licensers, big studios, and even the second hand market. That is real value, not air that so many love to call the future.

John Processor posted 23 to support Kang’s prediction that’s all.
While iOS 14.5's update to the "Find My" app could simply be for Beats products and third party devices, I think it would be a great time to (FINALLY) announce AirTags.

Announcing a new Apple TV with a remote that supports Find My would be timely as well.

I suspect Apple will announce the new Apple Card features as well.

I probably won't be getting the new Apple TV this year even though I'd like another ATV. Short of some killer feature, I'm pretty happy with what I have, and will get a third one (maybe?) next year.

HOWEVER, my Mom is looking to buy her first iPad, and I think I may FINALLY upgrade my iPad 2 (2011) to the 9th Generation iPad when it comes out, so I'm hoping the rumors are true that they'll announce the 9th Generation iPad this month as well, even though I'm VERY skeptical given that they just released the 8th Generation back in September.

While 2020 had some nice releases, I thought what was offered at BF time was poor compared to the previous year. It was like selling pretty much the same titles on discount from BF 2019 because of the absence of so many 2020 films that were put off to 2021. I think 2021 will still be good once we get theaters running at higher capacities and media is seen 3 -4 months later.

Sometimes lone wolfs do OK. But it wouldn't hurt to watch some streaming content like the rest of us when not on physical.

This thread gets sadder by the day. I noticed that Best Buy has down sized their physical media section again. Only one run. No dedicated 4K disc section. 4K section at Walmart is gone. Mainly dirt cheap DVDs there now. Physical media is dying a long tortured death.

For the record, I'd buy discs if they were easier to get without ordering online. I'm excited when movies like Aliens are announced for 4K disc. But it's a fact the physical media is dying.

1. People don’t buy discs in stores, most people now buy online.

2. There is a pandemic with very few new Blu-rays. What is there to put on shelves?

3. Stop being silly.

4. Easier to get without ordering online? Where do you live, The North Pole?

Depends on the BB store and it number of shoppers to how the stock media. Walmart has always been questionable as far as BD/4K compared to the hoards of DVDs they sell to people that shop there. I consider is a act of desperation you even step into one. Target is better.

Locally people here buy them in stores, but a lot more online. Stores get so many all the time. I see BB people restocking the shelves each week, but not always what you are looking for. I buy most locally, sometimes ordering when its a good price or I know they will quickly sell out of something I want. So there.

So does the UK have any good stores for media at all? Or is stuff really jacked up unless you buy it from Amazon UK?

While my local Best Buy is closing for good, my local Walmart has added a sizable all new 4K disc display.

Analyzing the selection at our local stores is entirely anecdotal, anyways. What stores stock varies by location; we all know this. What you'll find at a chain store in a densely populated urban area will be quite different than what you will find at stores in my nearest "city" with its population of just 27,500.

Many of us that collect discs have been buying most of them online for years already; the selection found online simply can not be beat, the prices are as good, or better, than what you will find in any store, and the convenience of shopping globally from the comfort of one's own home makes for the most pleasant of shopping experiences. Shopping from home saves gas, saves time, and that alone saves money. The only things that I buy in store with any frequency are groceries and household cleaning products and I will stop doing even that if it ever becomes practical to do so.

I have been averaging 10-20 discs per month for several months now and not one of them has been purchased in a physical store. What is easier than ordering online? I guess if you lived in a shopping center or above a store it might be easy. But you still have to leave your home, so even that is questionable. Not to mention the selection is infinitely greater than what a physical store can carry.

So what point are you trying to make here? How many digital titles have you purchased in store? I know the answer is none so what's the difference? Is your need for instant gratification so great that you can't wait for a disc to be delivered?

Nah, Vilya just asking about a box so he can easily do Atmos with his setup.

Have you been following the Reavon thread here? If they are made available then that will be 3 new UHD BD players for 2021!!!! The Reavon's are pricey for sure but still good to see new models.

Ordering movies online for me has been more of a hassle than going into a store. For me, I'm playing the "delivery lottery," especially when ordering through Amazon. Last movie I ordered from there, the first one that came was crushed beyond belief with the blu-ray case having pieces falling off of it. The replacement had a bent slipcover and a loose disc, but it worked. Only place that actually hasn't had any damage was from Best Buy but I would rather go into the physical Best Buy store and choose my own movie. I know exactly what I'm getting and the condition it's in. If I can't get it in store, I will go online but most things I buy are new and can be bought at the store.

Online shopping is fine, but it's not good to isolate yourselves at home completely in front of a computer screen and become a hermit. A person need to go out and interact and communicate with other people every now and then.
