censorship + can exist on any media and content. The difference is ownership of a copy. I might not be able to buy (rent) on UHD-BD (or any other media currently available) a copy of Star wars where Han Solo shoots first but I can always go pack and watch/show my old copies (if I feel like it). I cant' go out and buy a newly published copy of the Dr Seuss books that have now been dropped but anyone that has a physical copy can go back and re-read them.

I blame the dairy industry.

Milk was among the first to be homogenized and now everything must be.

[Show spoiler]homogenize:

"to make conditions, people, or things the same or similar, often in a way that makes them less interesting."

https://www.macmillandictionary.com/...can/homogenize

"If something is homogenized, it is changed so that all its parts are similar or the same, especially in a way that is undesirable."

"Household" members don't just stream when they are at home, so tying service access to locations or to specific devices is useless. People stream wherever they happen to be with whatever they happen to have with them. People also take vacations, some own RVs and a few even own vacation homes, and they may have jobs that involve travel, thus using different TVs in hotels, second homes, or recreational vehicles is not uncommon. Kids go everywhere and they stream from all over creation with all manner of devices and they do it with the same account.

This on-screen verification message might get a few people to open their own accounts, but for most it won't change a thing.
true, but it does show the evolution

https://techcrunch.com/2016/01/11/ne...sharing-is-ok/

https://www.howtogeek.com/413360/why...-your-account/

If there is easy room to expand the market (like in 2016) account sharing is no issue and even seen as a good thing/positive (helps with people getting hooked on it). In 2019 it was an evil we need to live with but not worth annoying others with it. Now they are at light annoyance....

See that, the Netflix one from where I'm watching is missing the black bar. Now I don't know how your Netflix's copy has the correct aspect ratio, while mine doesn't have that.
there can be many reasons why you guys see different things

1) you are in the Us and he is in Singapore, I don't know which netflix you both use, but if he is watching Netflix Singapore (assuming there is one) and you Netflix US the sources can be different for the rights and the same with the aspect ratios

2) Netflix offers different streams, I don't know, but can the streaming settings show different versions?

....
Ps. Just saw admirals post, mystery solved it was #1

There was a time one would never mistake a Imperial for a Cadillac or a Lincoln but for some time now many autos in the same class from different manufactures all look similar .

Netflix is mainly used by my family. With these continuous price hikes, account sharing should be expected. Hoping I can persuade the family to give up on Netflix.

Movie Theaters Set to Rebound in 2021, but Only to 1980s Levels - Bloomberg 3/13/21

Quote:
The U.S. box office is slowly improving, with family films from Walt Disney Co. and Warner Bros. drawing audiences to reopened cinemas, but the industry won’t be back to its pre-pandemic self for years -- if ever.

At the current pace of recovery, domestic ticket sales may reach $4.5 billion to $6 billion in 2021, according to Boxoffice Pro. That’s roughly triple the volume of last year, but far below the level of 2019 (11.3 Billion). Adjusting for inflation, a $6 billion year would be less than the industry generated in 1982, when “E.T.” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” ruled cinemas.

The good news for the industry is the largest moviegoing market in the U.S. -- Los Angeles -- is reopening theaters as soon as next week. Despite the city being the heart of the entertainment industry, its cinemas have been dark for a year.
Quote:
Most major cities have now reopened cinemas, albeit at limited capacity. After New York City resumed theater operations last weekend, overall ticket sales in the U.S. jumped. AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc., the largest movie chain in the world, said its attendance last weekend was 250% of what it was in the last three weeks of January, crediting the reopening of New York locations. One-third of all of AMC’s revenue comes from California and the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, the chain said.

The only U.S. market larger than New York, Los Angeles, will probably be fully reopened by the end of the month. In recent days, officials gave cinema operators the greenlight to resume operations between March 15 and March 17, though ticket sales must be limited to ensure customers can sit six feet apart.

AMC reopens 90% of U.S. theaters - The ReelDeal 3/11/21

Quote:
The show is going on for AMC.
The international movie theater chain has reopened nearly 90 percent of its U.S. cinemas.

AMC Entertainment Holdings said Wednesday that 527 out of 589 domestic theaters have reopened since last year’s shutdown. They include theaters in New York City, and theaters in Los Angeles are set to reopen soon. Internationally, only 78 theaters out of AMC’s 356 are operating.
The more this can happen the more movies ported to physical media eventually.

A little diversion, but drones have really made for some interesting filming when we watch TV series and recent films.

Quote:
A video shot by an FPV drone flying through a Minnesota bowling alley in one take has gone viral. The one-and-a-half-minute-long clip titled Right Up Our Alley was filmed in a single shot, albeit after 10-12 attempts. "I think there's some scepticism there of it being a true one-take. It is a true one-take. There's no CGI," said the video's director, Anthony Jaska. The sound was added in post-production as the buzzing from the drone's four blades make it impractical to use natural audio. The filmmakers said the goal of the video was to remind people of local businesses such as the bowling alley as public health measures from the coronavirus pandemic ease
Pretty Amazing example. Shot in 4K.

I think most on here understand Super 35 from the Cameron Titanic lectures.

I have my first vaccine dose scheduled for Monday after work. I saw the notice that AMC theaters will open in my area March 19,but because my second dose will not be until April sometime, I'm going to wait a bit longer before I set foot in a theater.

I give it 2 weeks after your 2nd dose before you consider yourself a lot safer. Hope it goes well for you.

Back in the day Netflix was my favorite thing. DVDs in my mail box as fast as I could watch them.

Then, ... in 2011,... Netflix decided streaming was the only future and it would hand off the Disc part of the business to a middle manager and the name of the disc service would be changed to Qwikster.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/qwiks...take_n_1003367

I couldn't believe it ... and watching the announcement video one thing really stood out most was Hastings was an arrogant person.

I immediately cancelled Netflix forever. I somehow still manage to watch whatever I want. And, lately I would not even watch Netflix with another persons login.

I see Hastings hasn't changed and the arrogance of this badly managed company can only be loved by the stock holders who are long over due for some adjustment.

The good part was the stock market taught Hastings a lesson. I still have Netflix streaming and disc by mail. For the first time ever I may see if another family member wants to share a Netflix streaming account and if no one is interested I may cancel the streaming.

Actually from what I read you took the topic to disc at that point. The discussion then was about streaming doing it willy nilly.

I would suspect most know about expanded picture from improper framing I mean it is kinda obvious "Sherlock". Hence the picture having more information. It is not limited to Super 35mm.

Now how about toning it down? People come here to learn and if that includes joe public not caring about quality that is worth stating to. One doesn't have to assume it is about them. It really is a sad state of affairs when it comes to accuracy of presentation.

Then again you seem to have a support for Disney censorship so probably throwing some less pure of that water to the wind at this point.

I'm scheduled to be vaccinated tomorrow as well, but they do not say which vaccine it will be. It could be any one of the three: Pfizer, Moderna, or the single dose Johnson & Johnson one. They are not letting us choose; we have to take what's offered or leave.
