Btw it isn't rocket science to switch out a chip set or driver motor. Actually fixed a car bluray player that had a roached board. Most of the time you just buy another but this was specialized. Most bluray players will last the rest of my life. One unopened will double that. I have VHS players that are still going strong.

Meanwhile back in reality how do you fix a movie pulled from circulation on the stream?
Hey I build my own computers, so working on a BD Player would be no problem. I was just answering the Poster that said finding someone to fix it would cause trouble....DIY and save the difference! As for pulling a Movie, I have never had that experience. Like I said it's all Digital, stored on a Server just replace it with a Back-up Copy!

Like I said, Old Discs played on Old Players are going to need some help. If you guys can't fix your own Players, it's going to get real Sad. Good Players keep going up in price, so working on them yourselves is going to get essential to keep them working!
They never left, just that you lost your standing here with this procrastinated silly belief that what you got is good enough for everyone. Bah, every time I watch streaming on my setup I occasionally think about this poor fellow in Utah that is missing out on things that make life great. You want to believe that streaming is the only entertainment go right ahead. Continue to complain about the rest of us, but occasionally do try to experience a better HT setup so you can remember the good life.

Can I like your post twice?

I tried to embrace ATV4K as my one an only and put all my content that was missing from streaming onto my own server.

One day though I decided to compare for myself so I bought a UHD player and a copy of The Shallows.

The fact that the Audio and the Video were better was enough to convince me.

If I can do better then that is what I want to do. If I'm going to experience something I prefer the best version of it.

We all understand physical is better and streaming is more popular. And, very few of us know what will happen next.

I'll stick with Blu-ray. As gotmule said, an upconverted 1080p image looks great. To me it can look just as good if not better than a 4K stream. Plus I get all the advantages of physical media. So if a title only gets a Blu-ray release that will still be my first choice over streaming.

Blu Ray audio is still the best audio I have heard. I have the SACD and the Blu Ray Audio of Dark Side of the Moon and they say it's the same mix and they do sound perfect.

I like albums too, they are definitely fun and I have a friend with a large collection of Vinyl. Maybe if I see him again I will give him the albums from my box sets that included them.

If this was Digital vs Analog, I've gone over to the digital side as it's easier to keep the quality. I do miss CRT but not enough to try to get one back.

The Shallows is a reference 4K disc for both audio and video in my mind. Fun movie and Blake Lively is definitely easy on the eyes.

Guess I'll have to upgrade the blu-ray then.

It's about time for me to go get vaccinated with whatever vaccine my county public health department got their hands on this week.

Watched 1917 in 4K last night.

Reference quality for me, stunning video and a mesmerising Atmos track. My highlight of 4K viewing as of now. It rocks!

If you appreciate the work of top DP's (in this case Roger Deakins) then this movie is a real treat. IMHO, they do not get better than Deakins.

Add: Just saw your post above. The BD disc was quite good, have not procured the UHD BD yet.

I watched Blade Runner 2049 yesterday and it is great. That Atmos soundtrack is stellar. I actually have the UK 4K disc which was pressed by Sony. It gets the a slight nudge over the one from the states pressed by WB.

Another DP by Deakins, music by Zimmer. Have the UHD BD and 3-D version. That one should have broke in your new subs.

I saw Kris Derrings post saying he was going to be doing future reviews of the two Reacon players when he gets them. Its this part I thought was interesting.

Quote:
I see a lot of love for the Panasonic players here. Obviously I gave them high marks in my reviews but that is mainly because of the necessity for the HDR Optimizer at the time. It is still relevant with some displays, but not nearly as many as it was when it came out. I also find them tedious as hell as an everyday player (way too slow and the interface is poor) and GREATLY prefer my Oppo.
The latter reminded me as we went though the years dealing with slow stodgy GUI interfaces with BD and UHD BD players that was indeed annoying. I hope both the not reviewed examples, the rack looking Tascam UHD BD and the Reacon two models aren't too slow.

About time, yes the continuous filming for long distances in several scenes looks amazing in 4K UHD BD.
