I took my girlfriend to see this movie back in the day. We were both in our art house film phase. We both hated it. Our relationship was never the same after seeing this movie. We split up about 3 months later.
My gay brother had a similar experience with his boyfriend after seeing Fassbinder's Berlin Alexanderplatz. His relationship went splat about 5 months after seeing that magnum opus.

That last part sounds like the majority of videos I wind up watching on YouTube.

BERLIN ALEXANDER-SPLAT.

My relationship with myself went splat after I watched SALO, but I don't want to talk about it.

I was considering this movie because of the cheap price and mild enthusiasm in this thread. I will never, ever buy it or watch it now. Thanks for saving me a few bucks!

Prepare for another SPLAT if you ever watch the disappointing Clash by Night.

The people at Criterion will have to spend some time in purgatory to atone for the sin of making SALO part of the collection.

Hmmm. I don’t know because I thought the film was brilliant, it really is, but watching it is not something I ever need to do again.

I own Salň, and I'll revisit it eventually, but it is a viscerally disturbing experience, similar to Come and See and Schindler's List.. Some images can never be unseen. HG Lewis tried for the same reaction with his splatter films Blood Feast and 2000 Maniacs, but they are so ineptly made that their effect is mostly comical. Ditto John Waters's films: these days Pink Flamingos seems positively quaint. Come and See, on the other hand, will give you nightmares. I wonder if modern audiences who watch Ken Russell's The Devils or A Clockwork Orange for the first time will be as offended as they were in 1971.

FUNNY GAMES is another one I will never watch again for its disturbing content, which I felt was excessive just to be that way and didn't contribute anything else the way SALO does. Nasty just to be nasty. It's been so long since I saw THE DEVILS I don't remember much from it so I guess it didn't affect me the way some other "notorious" movies have. You're right about Waters, I find his pictures more funny than shocking and I think the guy has a sense of humor that really meshes with my own. And H.G. Lewis is too incompetent a filmmaker to get past the ridicule and heckle stage.

So once again we are pretty much in agreement, Hank!

Tom and Jerry the Complete CinemaScope Collection, not a huge drop in price (currently $19.62 as of this post), but as far as I know, the first time it's dropped at all in price.

I just saw that WAC is releasing this 4 film Elizabeth Taylor collection.

Hoping it get a price drop or sale at some point.

WAC is also releasing a Clark Gable set:

And a Gary Cooper collection:

All three are composed of previously released single disks. My guess is that like the earlier four title Film Noir collection from 2020.

the price won't drop much below $36. Which at $9 a disk is saving about $40 over buying each disk individually. So not a bad price per title at all.

My guess is also that this allows WB to get revenue for a couple titles that aren't selling strongly by pairing them with a couple others that have sold strongly but are now not moving nearly as much as they did on original release.

Actually, I thought the Thin Man Collection went below $30 at one point, and that has 6 films. I think it is possible to get these new 4 packs for $25 at some point. We will see.

They should just do this from the start instead of releasing single 60 minute movies with barely any extras, if any, and not lowering their prices at all.

I wonder if REFLECTIONS will include both versions.

Not on Amazon. The lowest price for the six disk BluRay version of the Thin Man Collection has been $44.93.

Maybe the old DVD version went down below $30, but the BluRay version was only released in October 2024 and hasn't gone below that $44.93 price in the seven months since release.

The only other WAC BD collection I'm aware of is the four film Film Noir Collection released in September 2020. It was mostly at $36 (or sometimes even higher) thereafter. The only exceptions were years later, a few days in April 2023 and a few days more in November 2024 when it went down to $22.50 (I'm guessing that could be the wholesale price.) After that November sale it seems to have gone off direct sale from Amazon, so that looks to be a clearance price.

So I suppose you could try waiting 3-5 years to get a lower price than $36. But personally--if I wanted to see those movies--I wouldn't want to wait that long.

Looks like the Film Noir collection remains unavailable on Amazon--perhaps permanently--but it's still available on Deep Discount for $37.67.

ah, it must have been the Film Noir collection. I know at one point one of the WB sets were about $25. Perhaps it was one of those blink-and-you-miss-it-amazon-coupon things.

btw- I think $36 is a fantastic price for these. You can't beat $9 a film. My issue is because I didn't know ahead of time these were coming, I already have 1 or 2 of these in each set, thus greatly decreasing the value for me.

Funny, my cut-off is like 1969. I rarely buy movies made after that time.
