I am curious of the BD version's file size.
These look like classic MPEG2 artifacts, but to be fair, maybe the encoding team didn't do a great job with this one if they didn't utilized the entire space given to them.
Of course until we get official word, this is only speculation.

have a read of the hi-def digest review, says its a bit blocky in places, this guy seems to have found one of them..

There's no comment, this was the first crappy batch of Sony title released in the first 3 months, Sony started great with BD50 and Black Hawk Down...

There will be no exchange of Superman Returns.

The version with lossless audio will replace stocks of the current one as they run out.

The Pioneer Elite deck came with a special release that had lossless. It is believed this will become the general release when a new production is required.

I believe the Japanese Happy Feet release has PCM on Blu-Ray.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, long time lurker but this is my first post. I have a question to the insiders if you heard anything about the new Hairspray release by New Line?

If you check out the front page the latest news piece has a link to an announcement on Video Business that Hairspray is being released on Blu-ray exclusively in Q4, with the HD DVD version coming out in the first half of 2008 "due to the format's lack of regional coding". This being New Line's FIRST high-definition release it would almost seem like New Line has a format preference here?

So does this mean that HD DVD will be forced to add regional coding before New Line agrees to release the movie on that format? Also, will the PiP features on this disc be the first true Profile 1.1 release on Blu-ray?

From the Video business article:
"The dual-format supporting studio also will release the musical on HD DVD, but not until the first half of 2008 due to the format's lack of regional coding, making the title a de facto Blu-ray exclusive in the fourth quarter."

I'm just curious if New Line is going to take advantage of the extra capacity and bandwidth for their Blu releases and not do a single encode for both formats ala Warner. Here's to a BD-J "bottleface" game on Pan's Labyrinth!

Simply that films owned overseas by other companies will not be released on HD DVD until those other countries have finished their theatrical runs. Meanwhile the DVD and Blu will come out in an appropriate window

Lasorsa said the HD DVD version of Hairspray will most likely be released some time in the first half of next year. He attributes the delay to region coding issues. Blu-ray has region coding, but HD DVD does not. “And since we sell to independent international distributors,” Lasorsa said, “we have to be more sensitive to their release dates than a major studio.”

Even after Hairspray, most New Line titles will be released the same day on both standard DVD and Blu-ray Disc, with a lag for the HD DVD version. “But for second-party acquisitions to which we don’t have international rights,” Lasorsa said, “we will be day-and-date on all three formats.”

Whooa... I guess there are always two sides to a story. Region Code-free just backfired.

New Line is not distributing the movies itself in Europe. Depending on the title all have different distributors - many have so-called independent labels (read: none of the majors).

Therefor I expect most day-and-dates from New Line will see a delay for HD-DVD in the US (and worldwide for that matter) - always depending on their international theatrical runs as WickyWoo stated.

This New Line thing is big if they delay all their titles for HD.

Having Rush Hour 2 timed exclusive for the holidays (assuming that's when they release it) would be a bitter pill to swallow for the HD camp.

Any news on if/when RAD (1986) will come to Blu-ray? It was on INHD last year and it looked terrific, IMDB.com shows Columbia/Tristar as having dist. rights but doesn't specify if that was only theatrical rights. The movie apparently was never legitimately released on DVD so I was wondering if it will show up on BD?

As you can see by my Avatar, I'm a big fan...a guilty pleasure from a more simple time in my life.
