The Paradigms do sound foward and a little on the brighter side which i do like but the Energys really shine and excell past the Paradigms when you play them load...right now i think im leaning toward the Energy but its whatever center i buy will be the clincher...Will it be the Paradigm cc-290 or the RCLCR??? im up in the air so whatever brand wins the center channel war and the overall better sound war then ill be picking one of those up...what do you guys think??
The Energy RC series is a lot more refined then the Monitor series. The RCs do take a little while to break in, but some of the best speakers I have heard require about 200+ hours to break-in. Just because the prices are currently about the same, the RC-10s would be closer to the Studio 10s in terms of performance. The Mini Monitors are more like the CB20s. The one thing that Paradigm does that none of the other MFGs do, is their CC390 and CC690 are basically a tower speaker on its side. I think only Axiom has a similar center speaker.

It really comes down to what you like better, its good you have been able to listen to both. Good luck with your decision.

oh and also, the mini monitors are already broke in...bought them as a floor model and even though they have a larger 6.5" woofer the RC has more bottom end and more punch

they don't ship to the US......

driver size can affect the bass output, but it doesn't mean bigger is bassier.... materials, crossovers, crossover slopes, internal components, all have factors in performance whether its detail or bass output.

Future shop is owned by Best Buy so Magniola store woud sort of be their US equivalent, altho they usually don't have great listening room.

But they Hold Enrgy and Martin logan as Best buy inherit of the lower end stuff.

Sadly not a chance thy will ship to the US.

I know price are going to drop on it soon in the US. look for that deal.

I would love to grab the RC-LCR when the price drops but I'm still not working unfortunately. I may have to end up getting one used later on, like on ebay or something. I occasionally see guys selling their RC-10's on ebay. I don't normally like to buy used gear, but in this case I might make an exception.

Yeah, we all like and prefere new but for the right deal and a "like new" product id not hesitate to buy used either Miker..I saw that Audio Liquidator is the seller RC LCR for like $428??? And they even offer the Rosenut or Cherry for that same price. Id love to get a Rosenut but then the towers would have to match. Also ive seen the RC30's for $199ea now!!! Its crazy how they can offer the RC-30 for so cheap but not the LCR even though they carry practically the same components..

Yea, I saw that RC-30 for 199ea as well. I'll end up getting a pair of towers from the RC series at some point. I really love the sound of my RC-10, so the towers must be fantastic.

Well, as for as the RC-LCR being about the same as the RC-30, remember the RC-LCR has dual 2" mid range drivers added to the mix.

One of the guys here (bluray ne1) is using 3 LCR's for his fronts, left, center, and right speakers. He loves his set up.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I have been reading this thread for quite some time. I am loving my energy speakers! I originally bought the Take Classics from New Egg, and then when the RC-10's went on sale I jumped at a pair of them. Still breaking in but loving them so far!

audiophile liquidator has a very bad reputation.... I wouldn't trust them...

Understand that a speaker that lists for $550 ea, probably only costs about $150 to build. So to see it at that price is crazy, but there is a reason why Energy want to deplete their stock of these speakers....

I know for sure we will be seeing an anouncement for a new Veritas line sometime by the start of February..... its expected that they will also be anouncing a new Reference line in that time also.

Uh Oh is the RC series being on clearance gonna become the new trend. It happened when the Pio Elites prices dropped like that..

Anyway I was talking to my buddy that sells Energy Speakers the other day and they sold their last floor models of RC's.. actually he's got a couple new RC-R's and RC-LCR's still but that's it and won't be getting anymore.. He told me Futureshop's Energy stuff is all B-Stocks but customers don't know that and that's why they can discount them so much and it's he can't price match Futureshop since his stuff was all new straight from Energy... I wonder if that's really true. He did hear the "rumors" though about new stuff coming just wasn't sure if it's a new RC line or what.. I guess we'll see soon though.. Might be something else to add on to my 2 ch list.

DLS,

Energy customer service told me they are gonna have a new Veritas buy CES/CEDIA in 2011, but he said to start keeping a look out in August for Press releases of any changes they may be making and that he was pretty sure there would be some changes because they feel every 3-5 yrs products become stale and they want to keep things fresh... well you had the C sereis in 2006 replaced in 2008 by the CF/CB series, the RC series came out in 2007.... so if they release a new RC series, then that will have been 4 yrs....

Veritas is coming for sure..... maybe they will have a more expansive Veritas line where they have an entry level $1500 tower a $2200 tower and their $3500 tower????? who knows....

The RC-30s at AudioAdvisor are very tempting! Decisions! Decisions!

However, I would have no choice but to use them with my C-C100 center. The RC-Mini is too small. The RC-LCR is far too expensive.

A third RC-30 won't work as a center unless I placed it horizontally That won't look good nor sound good.

Oh well, on second thought, until the RC-LCRs go on clearance I will just have to hang on to my C-300s and C-C100. It would be nice if AA sold the RC-LCRs for $299 wouldn't it?

Hey Mpeake, they do sound great don't they. They will definitely sound better after the break in so give them some time. In case you haven't seen our discussion about the grills, they do sound a little better with them off, especially in the higher frequencies. Bass will also improve as you play them more and more. Enjoy!

rwo,

why not run phantom center until the inevitable price drop happens on the RC-LCR, its on sale in Canada so I am sure the price will fall here in the US soon enough. Or just use the the C-C100 for a while, donaldsonjune is doing just that at the moment, and I think its working out just fine for him.

Just of out curiosity I set the center speaker to None in my AVRs speaker setup. That would effectively send the center channel signal to the C-300s. I am not sure if that would then create a phantom center or not. DD PLxII Movie was on however. I think the phantom center was there because the dialogue sounded like it was coming from where the center is.

Anyway, the dialogue didn't sound as good as having the C-C100 as the center. It was slightly louder, but not as clearly defined. It didn't have the same quality at all. It was often difficult to understand what was being spoken.

If I do get the RC-30s, I will use them with the C-C100.

Edit: I might add that understanding dialogue for me has more priority over timbre matching. If I can't understand the dialogue, then I can't enjoy the movie. Timbre matching is the icing on the cake making the action sounds and FXs that pan the screen sound more realistic. I can live without it until the RC-LCRs are more reasonably priced.
