If you want a truer picture of global home entertainment spend then look here. IMO, it is silly to compare disc ownership spend with IPTV pay TV. Ownership spend (physical and EST) has been, is and most likely to continue to be a small part of the total spend on home entertainment.

Speaking of that Target sale, the Indiana Jones 4K disc set is part of that sale. Assuming folks have not gotten the LOTR/Hobbit sets, one could scoop all three of those and make out like a champ.

One of the errors with watching digital content is assuming people are utilizing TV even. To make a joke what do you think is the best device to watch ZSJL?

Yes that is a 12.9" iPad Pro (HDR capable)
You have wireless earphones away you go. Personally I watched Digital content on tablets, laptops, computers, and I venture to say probably a very sizable percentage is not using TVs at all. For you stats fans go investigate that.

Moviegoing Confidence Hits Highest Level Since Pandemic Began (Exclusive) - Hollywood reports 3/21/21

Quote:
The NRG survey was released two weeks before 'Godzilla vs. Kong' hits the big screen. The monster showdown has a shot at opening to a pandemic-best $20 million or more as cinemas reopen in major markets across North America, including LA. and N.Y.
Leading Hollywood entertainment polling firm National Research Group has been surveying moviegoers on a weekly basis since the pandemic began on their comfort level in returning to theaters.

Thursday of this week was a milestone day.

For the first time since the pandemic crippled the theatrical experience a year ago, those saying they would feel "very" or "somewhat" okay about buying a movie ticket hit a record-best of 57 percent.

That’s identical to comfort on Sunday, March 15th, 2020 — the Sunday before all U.S. cinemas went dark. If this trend continues, overall comfort level could cross 60 percent by the first week of April.

The results came two weeks before Hollywood tentpole Godzilla vs. Kong debuts on the big screen and as cinemas in Los Angeles and New York City — the country's two biggest moviegoing markets — flip on the lights. Godzilla is also debuting simultaneously on HBO Max. (NRG isn't providing tracking numbers for the film.)

Godzilla vs. Kong, from Legendary and Warner Bros., could prove a crucial test of the appetite for a box office recovery. To date, the biggest opening of the pandemic was Wonder Woman 1984, which launched to $16.7 million over Christmas weekend.

Tracking is strong for Godzilla, prompting some analysts to believe an opening of $20 million or more is attainable.

Studio executives receiving the NRG weekly briefing were also encouraged that the "very comfortable" category currently stands at 25 percent, a pandemic record that's even ahead of March 15, 2020.

Among those who say they’ve received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, 61 percent are somewhat comfortable, while 39 percent are very comfortable.

Coinciding with the rise in comfort, moviegoing metrics have also improved noticeably; 61 percent believe movie theaters are very or somewhat safe, a gain of two points or ore from a week ago and a new pandemic record for this metric.

Additionally, more consumers are aware of whether their local cinemas are open, or 48 percent, a jump of 6 percent or more from a week ago.

Also, 68 percent of those surveyed said they will next see a movie in theaters within the next three months. That’s been on a steady upward trajectory in the past four weeks.

Maybe that looks better on tiny screen of phones?

According to Zack Snyder himself, the Justice is Gray edition of the DCEU film is his preferred version. Snyder stated, “That to me is the most fan-centric, most pure, most Justice League experience.”

Of course, Mad Max: Fury Road‘s director, George Miller, felt similarly about his Black and Chrome edition of the popular award-winning 2015 film. And director James Mangold also remastered Logan starring Hugh Jackman in monochrome to give it a western feel.
I think some really miss the earlier days of movie making. But to be candid there are a lot of photographers that consider B&W photography to much more artistic than the distraction of color.

Snyder's entire workflow during filming and what post he did work on was in B&W, so I don't mind. Also, if it's on HBO MAX then that's a bonus. It's not like it's going to cost you extra there.

I think of all the missed opportunities back in the days of component video.

You could make EVERYTHING film noir by removing two of the cables.

It makes more sense for a comic book movie actually than anything.

People will pay more for the black and white version of comics. Or black and white cover art.

(I'm not a big comic book fan but a friend of mine told me the coloring is usually done by another artist or something like that.)

Just splashed about £195 for 6 discs as looks like they won't be available on iTunes or MA for a foreseeable future. 3 Blue Underground and 3 Vinegar Syndrome 4K UHDs. Still after Rad at a reasonable price.

A bit too much but had no other choice. Godzilla 2014 will be next and it will go into my gorgeous Futurepak.

In parallel, waiting for Ten Commandments and Gattaca to turn 4K on iTunes

Sin City is a recent example using color modestly, like old detective films in B&W.

See 7 CLASSIC BLACK-AND-WHITE SUPERHERO FILMS YOU NEED TO WATCH -Inverse.com. 5/16/2016

Quote:
Before special effects and CGI, Hollywood put out some fantastic pulp fictions.

While superhero mania might seem like a new type of Hollywood hysteria, the industry has actually financed films about masked heroes and vigilantes since moving images were projected on a screen. In the 1940s, several Hollywood production companies jumped in on a wave of serials based on popular comics and pulp-fiction heroes. Their output was almost as fast and furious as the ones we see today, with sequels to their most popular ones being produced as quickly as possible.

While most of these films followed a standard formula of tropes – including a costumed vigilante who fights villains and rescues kidnapped women – these films also featured some of the most daring special effects of their times. Involving very practical stunt coordination, and clever use of props to simulate everything from wall climbing to flying, these were some of the earliest films to experiment with movie effects. Nowadays, many of these heroes don’t have the same cultural relevance they once did, but few of them have surprising connections to modern day heroes like Spider-Man and Batman.
Look at this example

Some have abandoned that method and purchase UV (now MA or independent) codes for very little money, redeem said codes and boast about the size of their digital collection. Those same types then have the gall to come here and post about the difference between EST and physical profits.
....and your point is? You're not a true Collector unless you have very deep pockets! Everyone is looking for a bargain and spends their money with their own priorities. Laserdisc's were expensive then VHS came in at a better price, but they were also costly. At $99 they were too expensive for most people, but then rental places came in and the price dropped.

The Mom&Pop places didn't have the budget to stock, then Blockbuster showed up. Did you guys know they had a Revenue Sharing Model with the Studios? There is a good Documentary on this on Netflix. Yes they started Revenue Sharing like the Theatrical Theaters, that's what made them so successful. So looking for the best price is not new, and you shouldn't put people down for this practice. We all have our priorities and budget according to this. Deep Pockets are nice, but we don't all have them!
