I used to that. I had two VHS machines and would make dubs from rental stores. The only times it would get iffy is if I got a VHS that had anti-copy protection. I could not afford the dual deck VCR but even those may not have been able to bypass anti-copy measures. Once I entered the workforce in 1996, I invested in my first LD player and I would make dubbed copies from LD to SVHS. No worries on anti-copy or anything. You could make VHS copies from LD all day long. Of course the market changed once DVD entered the picture.

The Mom&Pop places didn't have the budget to stock, then Blockbuster showed up. Did you guys know they had a Revenue Sharing Model with the Studios? There is a good Documentary on this on Netflix. Yes they started Revenue Sharing like the Theatrical Theaters, that's what made them so successful. So looking for the best price is not new, and you shouldn't put people down for this practice. We all have our priorities and budget according to this. Deep Pockets are nice, but we don't all have them!
There were members scraping around for free codes all the time, while declaring their hatred for disc.

The irony is that until DVD there was always quality loss.

Bologna.

I lived on my own getting through school. I took advantage of Laserdisc clubs and Compact disc clubs like Columbia House. I budgeted and traded. Sold up sold down. Heck sold them all when I needed money.

No matter your budget, claiming something is better when you know it isn't based on your budget?

It would be like claiming a sattelite Apple home pod is just as good as a thousand dollar Klipsch or Polk Audio speaker....wait nvmnd I think I have read that too.

My player journey:

1. VHS x 2
2. LD x 2
3. DVD x 3
4. Blu-ray x 3 (PS-3 + 2 more)
5. UHD x 1 (Panasonic UB-820)

Digital is the weak link because it’s a step down from what came before. So you can watch it on mobile? So ****!

You can watch movies on phones and tablets.... Doesn't mean you should.

Progress means different things to different people. Getting content on what you have is a start and there's not much wrong with that.

It is sad how far the quality falls though. You have to feel bad for all the hard work that gets dumbed down to the max for the people who want it as close to free as possible.

What a load of crap. We all have a certain amount (or none) of disposable income. Movies are a luxury, not a necessity so you have to operate within your disposable income budget or do more to increase your disposable income or rationalize that theft is justified. Theft works for many unless they are the victim of theft then its call in the law of file lawsuits. Posted before how we managed to get where we are:

The exception is HDMI cables, they were purchased from Monoprice.

Did commercial office cleaning for 10 years in order to purchase my 2nd video projector. Have built patio decks, roofed a home, customized vans, licensed operator for directional AM radio station, appliance repair, you name it. I would do most anything to support my home theater habit .

So I will not join in on the home theater vs cost discussion because to some my theater will look like luxury and to others it will be barely adequate.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds ya. Has to be one of the weirdest scenarios in home theater. To date not a single disc hater that buys disc codes on the cheap has offered an explanation.

Absolutely no shame, some even visited many threads per day and asked outright if anyone had codes for free.

I threw out a few codes yesterday.

It's not worth it for me to give them away.

I used to give them to a friend who uses streaming but he scoffed at some of the titles so that was that.

It is amazing what people will complain about. I gave (for free) my expensive Sony DVD player to kin that did not have any kind of disc player. In the exchange I was asked, “does it play the new HD formats.” They did not own an HD TV at the time.

I am doing well; thank you for asking. I have just been busy with several of my hobbies simultaneously. Basically, I've been playing too hard. I continue to follow the conversation here, but sometimes I like to sit back and simply listen.

You get the vaccine? Thinking about it, but on the fence.

I received the Johnson & Johnson (aka Janssen) single dose vaccine on March 15th. I had some mild side effects the next day: dull headache, slightly sore arm, and a touch of nausea, but these were gone by the second day. This particular vaccine does not reach full efficacy until 4 weeks after it is administered.

I was also given a handout that listed the vaccine's ingredients before I was given the shot. Most of the process was run by a unit from my state's National Guard and everything went smoothly. I am glad to be vaccinated, but I wish I had the choice of which vaccine to get; it was a take what they had or leave it situation. Both the two dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have higher efficacy rates, but just having to get one shot was kind of nice, too.

So are we suppose to hear your implied jealously all the time because we buy stuff that you think is too frivolous for your lifestyle?

Don't we all follow our own prerogative's for entertainment which brings us enjoyment, which costs way less now thanks to the pandemic, since most of us eat at home mostly, don't go out very much, certainly travel a lot less. You just try eating out a lot and see how much money you can spend.

Honestly why don't you concentrate on managing your own expenses.

Its a lot better then waffling and then getting sick from Covid 19, you'll never ever want to experience that.

You likely get a Johnson & Johnson booster in so many months to cover other variants.

Default 1 UHD Blu-ray Disc at Walmart

Just back from Walmart (among other visits), a week or so ago I noticed very few UHD Blu-rays in their display, the time I saw only 1 UHD disc.

Is this unique or is Walmart cutting back on stocking UHD Blu-rays?

Exactly. People that don't pay my bills telling me what is wasted money.

Shaking his fist and speeching at me
Shouting from his soap box like a fool
Come Sunday morning he's lying in bed
With his eye all red, with the wine in his head
Wishing he was dead when he oughta be
Heading for Sunday school
Clean up your own backyard
Oh don't you hand me none of your lines
Clean up your own backyard
You tend to your business, I'll tend to mine
Drugstore cowboy criticizing
Acting like he's better than you and me
Standing on the sidewalk supervising
Telling everybody how they ought to be
Come closing time 'most every night
He locks up tight and out go the lights
And he ducks out of sight and he cheats on his wife

Walmart sucks for supporting physical media in any real way. All they care about is selling DVD's. A poor measure of any trend if you ask me.

They are the last to count on.
