Yup, it's a direct sequel to only the original 1978 film. It ignores everything else.

According to IMDB, the movie premiered at TIFF today. Reviews will probably be embargoed, correct?

I know I'm wishing for things that will never happen but it's nice to dream sometimes, isn't it?

Wouldn't it be a no brainer for both parties involved?

I've seen that offered in my area as well. But I'm always skeptical that it's a Fathom Events or something-of-the-equivalent screening and it's basically the 2k blu-ray being broadcast over satellite which I've seen reported in the past as being a less-than-acceptable presentation.

I’m having a good laugh at those who thought this movie wouldn’t be so bloody and graphically violent.

Good lord. It goes so far as Michael
[Show spoiler] squashing a guys skull with his boot, in all its graphic glory.

That's my doing as between my original post and another's reply I went OCD over the fact that I discovered the image I posted wasn't 2.35:1 (but a cropped 2.47:1) so in the meantime I replaced it with a similar one that was in the correct OAR.

It's a character flaw that I'm not especially proud of!

Are these reviews spoiler-free? If they are, what’s there to even talk about?

That’s more a plot summary than a review imo.

Yeah, read non spoiler reviews (4 or 5) and they do seem quite positive. I’m now going to avoid all other talk and look forward to the 19th.

I guess it's possible they saved this one with the reshoots, following the reactions to those initial test screenings.

Well, I guess i wouldn’t call this accurate if that’s true....

“While gory, Green’s film is more like Carpenter’s original than the slasher clones that followed it, opting for a classier approach. There’s no shortage of violence, but it’s not gratuitous.”

Yeah, I was just thinking that. Sounds pretty gratuitous to me...

He needed her knife. And that was one big knife she was using to cut up all that ham. (Of course, that sequence appeared originally in the first sequel, so it's nice that this new film is giving a nod in that movie's direction. I wonder if we'll get a death-by-hot-tub-scene as well?).

After seeing the trailers for this film (and now that the reviews are out, I'm taking great pains to avoid reading any spoilers), I'm expecting great things. The original movie is as close to perfection as a horror film can get and I reckon this film will it justice in a way that none of the other sequels did.
