Now that it has been confirmed that the Hobbit is being delayed a year, why is everyone automatically assuming the LOTR EE BDs will not be out until then?

Because everyone was assuming that they would always be release with the coming of The Hobbit even if nothing was ever said. As far we know they might actualy be release later this year.

Nothing had ever been announced WRT a release date for the EEs, only that it would be "closer" to release of The Hobbitt. If they released the EE's one day after the theatricals, that would technically be "closer" to The Hobbitt. So all we know is that the EE's will be released after the theatricals, nothing more. People who are certain that this means the EE will be released simultaneously with the Hobbitt films are merely assuming a worst case scenario with no facts to back it up.

Why should people assume otherwise? It's safer to think along those lines and be pleasantly surprised than to be hopeful/optimistic just to be left hanging or disappointed with each passing day/month/year with no such announcement.

Theatricals refers to the original versions that were shown in the theatres.
EEs refer to the later DVD releases that contained much more footage. Jackson stated that they were for the lovers of the books as they contained material in the books, that made the movies too long to be in the theatres. |

I'll be getting as much joy with the improved PQ and AQ with the TE releases as I will with the extended footage with the EE's. I know I will double dip...and I have no problem with that. By the way, my name is John too, and I also am a LOTR addict.
