There's some serious conspiracy theories out there over why the Insight Bowl chose Missouri as Iowa's opponent over Nebraska. Nebraska won the Big 12 North and defeated Missouri. Missouri is unlikely to sell out their allotment of tickets, whereas Nebraska would have easily sold out their allotment and brought many more fans. Nebraska has a larger national fan base and a game versus a border state team would have brought big ratings. So why would they take Missouri? It's obvious the Big 12 didn't want a 3 hour infomercial about the Big 10 and how the 2 teams will play next year, so the Insight Bowl will take the tourism, ticket sales, and TV ratings hit to make the Big 12 happy. The Insight Bowl claims they took Missouri because of their higher BCS ranking, but the Insight Bowl has never cared about that in the past, considering last year they took a 6-6 Iowa State team over an 8-4 Missouri team that had beaten Iowa State by 10. Now Nebraska gets to go to the Holiday Bowl for the second straight year and play a 6-6 Washington team they already beat by 35 this season.

Wow I figured the spread would be high but Oklahoma is a 17.5 point favorite over Uconn in the Fiesta Bowl. Gotta love that automatic invite for the Big East champ.

I'm a little surprised TCU is a 3 point favorite over Wisconsin. I figured Wisconsin would be a slight favorite in the Rose Bowl.

For the second time in two months Maryland has lost a player for the season due to a scooter accident. Dexter McDougle, a redshirt freshman cornerback broke his clavicle and will have season-ending surgery. McDougle was riding on a scooter driven by teammate Isiah Ross when the scooter apparently hit a bump and crashed. Ross was uninjured. In October redshirt freshman offensive lineman Pete DeSourza broke both his legs in a scooter accident.

I sure wouldn't be surprised, especially since there's a vacancy there now.

Why would Urban Meyer go to the NFL? He has the "pedigree" and success at the collegiate level to go to a really good or close to good program and win a lot of championships, no GMs to meddle with you in the NCAA.

Wow, just noticed that story. He also retired last year before un-retiring a week later. I'll believe he's serious when a few months pass or he accepts another job.

What is it about Florida coaches quiting then un-quiting? Meyer has done it and so did basketball coach Billy Donovan a few years ago. Donovan quit to take over the Magic before changing his mind and staying.

I think Meyer takes at least a year off before returning to coaching. He's not going to un-resign again. I would guess he does TV next year for CBS or ESPN and then looks into a return to coaching. He's got the pedigree to go to the NFL if he'd want to, or he could return to college.

I wonder who Florida will get to replace Meyer. I don't think there's anyone on his current staff that would get consideration. His former assistant and current Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen would likely be the front-runner for the job, which sucks for Miami since he is one of their top targets. If he's not interested there should be plenty of big names available. Florida is one of the top jobs in the country.

That's crazy. Come next year the combined tenure of Florida's "big 3" football factories (UF, FSU, Miami) will be ONE year. Two new coaches and Jimbo Fisher at FSU. Also USF's coach has only been on the job one year. Only UCF has a coach who has been there any reasonable amount of time in this state with George O'Leary.

I think all three of the big Florida schools are going to be in for big years going forward. Florida's problem this year was having a pro style quarterback to run their offense. Brantley would probably put up big numbers if he played at an offense that was more conventional with good receivers.

You have to wonder what Urban Meyer is going to do a year from now. Just for example, let's say UCLA fires Neuheisel after another bad year. Would Meyer be interested in a program that is still an attractive opening that doesn't come with the pressure cooker that is a top tier opening?

It's obvious. Meyer resigned so he could take the Canes job. Look back a few pages, I actually suggested that he should do that.

I wonder if Florida will give Gruden a call. The Gators have a history of paying their head coach a huge contract and no offense to the Canes but UF is a much better job to have. Doubt Gruden would take the job but I'm sure he'd think longer and harder about it than he did with Miami.

Another name that deserves consideration for the Florida job is Charlie Strong. He's a very good coach who was an assistant at UF for several years before taking over Louisville this year as head coach.

The Miami Herald is reporting that Miami is expected to speak to Nebraska coach Bo Pelini about their coaching vacancy. The story says Miami has received permission from Nebraska to talk to Pelini, but Nebraska AD Tom Osborne said he didn't grant permission nor (nor was he asked) and Pelini said he didn't seek permission.

I would be very surprised if Pelini was interested. The only reason I could imagine wanting to leave Nebraska would be non-football reasons, namely wanting to live in a big city with warm weather, and I don't see that being likely as is from the Midwest and has no ties to Florida. Nebraska has one of the most passionate fan bases in sports, selling out every home game since 1962, whereas Miami has a very fair-weather fan base that rarely sells out. I would also be surprised if he left Nebraska right before they enter the Big 10 and think this story will go away quickly, although maybe Pelini will get a raise thanks to the speculation.
