I never accused you of being off topic, only perpetually pessimistic. Almost all, if not all, of your predictions are negative. Are you able to envision anything, anything at all, positive about the future?

Your posts often don't read much different than those of the "discs are doomed" crowd; the only difference being what is doomed.

Ordered True Romance 4K, Cat O'Nine Tails 4K (original artwork version), and new Apple TV 4K. I'm waiting for Amazon to list Cat O'Nine Tails 4K regular set.

My Diabolik DVD order of Donnie Darko 4K and Battle Royale 4K are finally in transit and also got a shipping notification from Severin Films that my 4K set of Santa Sangre is on its way.

Scott Pilgrim in glorious Dolby Cinema is tonight! A couple of libations beforehand will also be had. Today, is the official 14th day after my second COVID vaccine, so I am "officially" vaccinated. Good thing I have the day off today, too!
All of that sounds like a great start to the weekend!

When you get that new ATV4K let us know what you think of it; I may haz to get one, too.

Like I said, trouble ahead. Is digital coming to a premature end I wonder? After all, you need those data centres.

The one thing that I agree with alchav about is that digital distribution is here to stay. You clearly wish that digital would end and that makes you the same as those who wish that fate upon physical media.

Our energy needs will be met because everyone wants those needs to be met. We have the technology; all that we lack is the will to implement it on a vast scale. As our energy needs increase, so will our willingness to utilize more clean renewable energy sources.

Yeah, I want digital to end and high quality disc to thrive. That’s why I’m a member here. I hate digital, you all know this. To collectors, HT enthusiasts and quality lovers, digital is the wasp stinging our ass.

Digital distribution has not prevented me from building a sizable library. It has not prevented me from enjoying my home theater nor has it prevented me from enjoying the quality that discs provide. My ass has not been stung; thanks for your concern, though.

Maybe you could show us on a doll where digital touched you so that we may better understand your feelings? Hating digital distribution of content makes as much sense as hating pay TV distribution of content.

Digital distribution allows me to access much of my collection when I am away from home and it also allows me to share that collection with friends and family located both near and far without any of my discs ever leaving my possession.

I like having both and I am not in the habit of wishing ill upon what other people enjoy. They can coexist. They do coexist. I am a member here because I enjoy many aspects of this hobby including reading opinions that are different from my own.

Is this because of lousy internet your end?

I liked the story about the village that every day someone turned on something and the whole town's internet went down.

It’s what it represents in terms of poorer quality, trends of watching on cellphones, censoring content, the fact you don’t own the content, the fact you can have movie night disrupted through connection problems, etc..

I’m not a one for sitting on fences, that’s my stance. I don’t like it.

It is a fact that the issue with data centres could disrupt the digital landscape. The factscare there and so are the complications which I linked to yesterday. It’s so more expensive for these companies to move to renewables and despite pledges, they are mostly still running on fossil fuels I understand. The governments may decide that 24/7 energy leeching for entertainment can’t be justified. That’s a very real possibility.

No, I have 80Mbps and very good ping as I’m a keen gamer. I have the option of going way higher but it’s fast enough for
my needs. I could be getting way more than that with rival services.

I see it differently in the US. To me it is just a shift of pay TV from linear to IPTV. In the US it has always been easy to sign up for pay linear TV but a PITA to terminate (cable and pay satellite) and had to subscribe to a bundle with very little a la carte offerings.

Netflix changed that with easy sign up and cancel anytime. So far all the other big IPTV players has similar policies, if they change their cancel procedures to make it more difficult to cancel then I will terminate all of those that do.

It's a business decision that will cause digital movies to disappear, not a technological limitation.
it is not just that. Electricity costs money, maintaining machines costs money. It is easy to say just move it to a different server, but someone needs to be willing to pay for that on an ongoing basis. In a subscription model with enough people the costs can be offset by the constant fees, but that title that is bought by the client stops generating revenue the second it is bought and the service needs the client to buy new titles to offset the costs of maintaining the old ones.

I have shown him reams of power consumption data in the past; it makes no difference to him. He had us losing our TVs, or having their usage severely restricted, because of their power consumption as well. He lives in an alternate fear filled universe.

If you tell him there's a chance that an asteroid will hit the planet, or the possibility of any other calamity, he becomes convinced that it will absolutely happen.
