Nice pickup by the Mountain West. Can we just disband the WAC now? They are more irrelevant than the Sun Belt.
Hawaii always fields a very exciting team. They always have a very potent offense. They led D1 football this year with 388 passing YPG and were 10th in PPG at 39.9. They remind me a bit of those BYU teams under LaVell Edwards in the 80's.

As Miami is nearing a decision to name their next head coach, two guys that reportedly were really impressive in their interviews were Marc Trestman and especially Al Golden. Apparently, Golden really had good vision for the program going forward. It'll be interesting to see who Hocutt and his advisers end up picking. For what it's worth Bernie Kosar is really pushing for Trestman who was his QB coach when he played at Miami. I'm really surprised Golden wants this job so badly, I thought for sure he would be content at Temple until Penn State was ready for a new coach. But then again that could be five years away, Paterno never is going to leave it seems. Of all the final candidates, I would be very happy with any of them with the exception of Tuberville.

I had to look up Trestman since I'd never heard of him. It looks like he has a long and very unimpressive record coaching. The past three years he's coached in the Canadian Football League. And Golden appears to have zero connections to southeast/Florida recruiting and a losing record at Temple. Are these guys really the best Miami can get?

Trestman is a former offensive coordinator at Miami and an offensive guru, he's been very successful in the CFL. Al Golden is one of the hottest young coaches in the country, what he has done at Temple is nothing short of amazing the last two seasons. I would be over the moon if he were to be the 'Canes next head coach. They were saying on ESPN this afternoon, that he had a ten year plan if he were to be the next Miami head coach. That's exactly what we need, someone to be the face of the program longterm.

Idiots. The gap between Newton and every other college QB is wider this year than it's ever been. Kellen Moore is a fine college QB but this vote it just laughable. The AP vote is the more highly respected All-American team vote and isn't composed of 12 elitists like this poll. I'm sure Newton will get 1st team on that vote thankfully.

The Auburn quarterback and overwhelming favorite to win the Heisman Trophy later Saturday was left off in favor of Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore by a panel of 12 FWAA members.

Weird. They hired the only person they interviewed? I'm sorry but there's no excuse for not at least interviewing Charlie Strong for the job. NCAA football needs a "Rooney Rule" far more than the NFL. Muschamp is a Georgia/Texas guy. I'm sure that'll really excite UF fans... They hired a guy with less loyalty than Lane Kiffin.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5910011

Quote:
Florida to hire Will Muschamp

Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has accepted an offer to be the head coach at Florida, sources told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach.

Muschamp, who just finished his third season at Texas, where he was the head-coach-in-waiting to succeed Mack Brown, replaces Urban Meyer at Florida.

The sources said Muschamp was the only person Florida interviewed.

Muschamp leaves one of the nation's premier programs for another. Between them, Texas and Florida have won three national championships since 2005.

I'm shocked about how quickly Florida hired their next head coach in Muschamp. They must have known for a while now that Meyer wasn't coming back next year. There is no other way to explain the swiftness of this hiring.

Cam Newton was a Heisman lock but even I'm surprised by the massive margin. I'd probably go #1-4: Newton/Luck/Moore/James if I had a vote.

2010 Heisman Trophy Voting:

Points
Cam Newton 2,263
Andrew Luck 1,079
LaMichael James 916
Kellen Moore 635

1st Place Votes
Cam Newton 729
Andrew Luck 78
LaMichael James 22
Kellen Moore 40

I think this is a great hire by Florida. Muschamp is a great coach and I thought Miami should have hired him a week ago.

He has a lot of decisions to make with that offense, either go to a pro style that suits Brantley's talents or let's see what Burton is made of next year. The thing is John Brantley could be a stud if he played in an offense where he can sit back in the pocket and throw the ball downfield.

Quote:
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP)—Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino agreed to a new seven-year contract Saturday through the 2017 season.

The contract comes amid speculation that Petrino was a potential candidate for the Florida opening after Urban Meyer resigned Wednesday.

The deal will increase Petrino’s average annual salary to $3.56 million, a raise from $2.7 million under his previous contract, which had four years remaining. It also expands his current noncompete clause to all Southeastern Conference schools rather than just the SEC West.

Petrino is 23-14 in three seasons at Arkansas, improving from 5-7 his first season to 10-2 this year. The No. 8 Razorbacks will face Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4, the school’s first BCS bowl game.

“This new long-term agreement is beneficial to our program now and will continue to strengthen our program over time,” Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement. “Coach Petrino has stabilized and elevated the success of our program.”

The contract also includes an $18 million mutual buyout clause in 2011-12 should the university fire Petrino or he leave the school. The buyout is lowered by $25,000 in 2013 and falls to $14.5 million in 2014 and $10.8 million in 2015. It’s $7.4 million in 2016 and $3.9 million in the final year of the deal.

“The mirror image buyout provisions included in the terms of the agreement reflect both parties’ serious commitment to each other and the long-term success of Razorback Football,” Long said.

It also includes a number of incentive clauses, including $300,000 for winning the BCS championship, $150,000 for appearing in the national championship game and $125,000 for appearing in a non-title BCS bowl.

“I am excited to express my commitment to the University of Arkansas,” Petrino said in a statement. Chancellor (Dave) Gearhart and Jeff Long have been tremendous in terms of their support and I appreciate the positive energy the fans have demonstrated. I look forward to continuing to dedicate myself to leading the Razorback football program.”

Petrino arrived at Arkansas following the 2007 season when he resigned from the Atlanta Falcons midseason. Prior to that, he was 41-9 in four seasons at Louisville, winning the 2006 Orange Bowl.
Look at the size of that buyout clause, I'm glad to see Petrino show some loyalty for the first time in his career. He's a great coach, and he should win a lot of football games for Arkansas.

I like it to I do wish they'd at least talked to more people though even if Muschamp is clearly the best still good to see what others have.

I'm sure he'll clean house and do it his way. He's also coming in being no stranger to expectations so thats good.

Very interesting to see how he'll do not to mention if he sucks Texas won't have had to waste their time on him Or they'll be kicking themselves.

Temple's Al Golden has been offered the Miami coaching job and is expected to accept it, but the deal has not been finalized yet, a source confirmed on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Golden spent five seasons at Temple, transforming the Owls from a program that was 1-11 in his first season to winning 19 games in his past two seasons at the Philadelphia school.

He succeeds Randy Shannon, who was fired after the Hurricanes (7-5) finished with a loss to South Florida.

The Owls went 8-4 this season, beating a Connecticut team that is headed for a BCS bowl by two touchdowns. They were not invited to a bowl game.

Temple was 0-11 the year before Golden arrived. In 2009 he led the Owls to their first bowl game in 30 years. He also presided over a dramatic improvement in the program's Academic Progress Rating -- one Golden and the school have previously called the greatest turnaround in the NCAA's APR era.

Golden, a New Jersey native and former Penn State tight end, has earned a reputation as a dogged recruiter and strong motivator in addition to being a disciplinarian.

Golden met twice in person with Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt, once in New York and then in Philadelphia, during the interview process. Former Miami assistant coach Marc Trestman, the coach of the two-time defending CFL Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes, also received strong consideration for the job, as did UConn coach Randy Edsall and Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.

Golden previously worked under Al Groh as Virginia's defensive coordinator. He was also an assistant under Joe Paterno at Penn State and under Tom O'Brien at Boston College.

Miami is playing in the Hyundai Sun Bowl against Notre Dame on Dec. 31. Interim coach Jeff Stoutland is expected to lead the Hurricanes against the Fighting Irish.
Yes! This is unbelievably perfect news! By far the best coach we have had since Butch Davis.

Yeah I like it, but I won't be shocked if he can't meet expectations. Its much easier coaching when you have no expectations then tons of them.

Yep he basically has 2-3 years max to show he knows what he's doing thats a big difference from hoping you can win 5 games instead of 0 lol.

So far the Canes havn't done squat recruiting-wise for 2011. They are 11th in the ACC out of 12 teams in recruiting right now and not even top-50 nationally. Golden has a LOT of work to do.

He's an exceptional coach and a very solid recruiter. His first order of business is to GET TEDDY BRIDGEWATER BACK. Ok I'm calm again.

Yeah I won't judge him recruiting this year but by this time next year we should have a solid look at where this team is going at least recruiting wise.

My only problem with Miami hiring Al Golden is he's made no secret of the fact that his dream job is Penn State, and if Joe Pa retires in a year or two I have no doubt he'd go after that job. I still think it's a good hire though compared to the other candidates. Golden likely has been recruiting in Florida for years and has roots in the rich Pennsylvania market so he should be able to get good recruits.

In other news Vanderbilt has hired Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn as their new coach. No word yet on the terms of the deal and if the rumored $3 million per year salary is true.
