A decent sale, but not enough for me. The older SB Classics for $99 is a great price, imho. I have all of those however.

As someone who pre-ordered each of these as they came out, I can't recommend the Shaw Brothers sets highly enough, beautifully done.

Most notably, SF are reissuing the Brave Archer collection with 1,000 more copies, and it's part of the sale for $55.99. It'll go back up to $70 after the sale is over. You can apply the code SHOUT10 to get an extra 10% off as well.

Great price for the brave archer set.

the 10% is not valid for new releases and did not work for the SB classics v5 set, which I thought was a little severe as they already have V6 and V7 up for ordering on their site.

Ah, I only tested it on the Brave Archer set. It brings it down to $50.40.

It also brings the Ti Lung / David Chiang set down to $117. This one rarely ever goes on sale.

Definitely the cheapest I've seen. I think of all the Shout sets available right now that is one a lot of people are going to sleep on and regret not picking up when it goes OOP.

re: the Shout Sale, the Detective Dee movie is actually really good! It's a shame I don't think many people bough it because they didn't bring over the other movie(s) ( I think the sequel also got a release in the states but is now OOP, but the third movie did not).

It's one of the better movies I've seen in the last year or so!

MVD has a Cult Epics up to 50% off sale going on. Includes preorders! I just watched His Motorbike, Her Island and can't recommend it enough. From director Nobuhiko Obayashi (House, etc) Not that it is a horror, but a great film in general.

I wondered the same. I checked the usual suspects, B&N, Target, DD, Walmart, and none of them had these prices, so I would guess it's an Amazon sale.

Amazon also has a fair number of Criterion BD titles at 50% off, even though the B&N sale ended 10(?) days ago. I wonder if Amazon is trying to move boutique BDs at lower prices--a lot of Criterions were on their Best Seller list during the July sales period.

Or perhaps Amazon convinced Criterion and Kino (or they convinced themselves) to try lower pricing to see if they moved more units and thus made more money even at lower pricing?

I assume that the big B&N sales are done in a financial arrangement with B&N, since Criterion promotes the sales themselves on their email lists and social media. Kino might do the same? Perhaps they give B&N a rebate or other lower pricing to move more units during the sales?

With Amazon being the other mass market retailer who sells a lot of boutique BDs, perhaps both labels do something similar with Amazon? Maybe?
