I got my copy today also. I like how the cover is a light yellowish look kind of like it has been sitting in someones cigarette smoke filled apartment.

This was a bit reassuring, and basically why I decided to place the order:
But here's the rub, if there are backorders, or one or two of your items are in-stock at a time, you will get the plastic bag mailers and they'll piecemeal everything out to you (if you pay for the non-free shipping, that only covers the initial package, the rest go out media mail in baggies). If you have a return due to damage, MAKE SURE you call to verify they received the return. I've had to deal with them on more than one occasion where the item was never logged in or they claimed they never received it. And during the last buy 1 get 1 sale (the one where everyone started to notice they were going downhill), I had CS Supervisors blatantly lie to me on the phone when calling about orders.

Sorry for the discouraging words, but while I personally have been a customer of theirs for probably 10 or more years, I honestly wouldn't recommend them to someone who had never dealt with them before. Just too much potential for drama and unnecessary stress. It really makes you appreciate places like Amazon.

I can't stand those plastic garbage bags. Might as well stick a label directly on the Bluray case and shove it in the mailbox. Hopefully anyone who gets one of these with a damaged case will complain. I wish all retailers would allow you to specify better packaging with a added fee and let you choose bubble wrap or box. Including Amazon.

I ordered a few more. couldn't resist Twilight Zone Season 5 for 42 bucks

Complaining does absolutely no good where Deep Discount and DVD Planet are concerned. I've complained from the time they instituted the packaging change, even going so far as to having it noted on my account and every order I place that my items are to be shipped in boxes. ...Does no good.

You'd think with the countless returns due to damage incurred during shipping they'd learn, but apparently the cost/savings ratio favors the mailers over replacement items. One of these days maybe they'll wake up and realize they forgot to factor in the most important part to the equation, the lost sales from customers who jumped ship.

Thanks for the words, regardless. I've already placed the order so we'll just have to see how they handle it. Of the 16 items, two of them said "Ships in 5-10 days" (I believe Kagemusha and Days of Heaven), the rest of them said "In Stock." So I imagine they'll ship those two separately later on? Hopefully with the 14 other items (including one box set) they'll be forced to ship in a box.

Hooray! I bought:
High and Low;
Pale Flower;
Insignificance;
Bigger Than Life;
The Times of Harvey Milk;
Kiss Me Deadly.

3 different orders (fear of customs).

Now to think if i can spare the money for Summer Hours / A Christmas Tale / Secret of the Grain / Videodrome / Hausu / Gimme Shelter.

Just watched "People on Sunday", my first silent movie and I'm fascinated. Probably because I'm living in Germany and it's played by normal people.

Hey guys..... Quick question for a suggestion.

The only criterion edition movie I own is The Thin Red Line. And I'm
absolutely in love with the quality and everything. I felt like it was my first time watching a blu Ray movie again because of the clarity and detail and excellent sound.

And I consider myself somewhat of a movie buff but in this list I hardly recognize any of these movies but I definetly wanna add to my criterion list.

I'm 24 years old so I don't know if it's because these are older movies or foreign ( doesn't matter which I'm a fan)

But long story short if you guys had a top 5 list of criterion movies I should add what would it be???

1. Seven samurai
2. Diabolique
3. Sweet Smell of Success
4. M
5. Night of the Hunter

Those are my favorite criterion films that I've seen

Everything will come down to the kind of film (genre, director, etc.) you like or prefer . Most Criterion releases come with great supplements and overall excellent quality so it really depends on the film itself as quality isn't a problem in any of them. My question is, which kind of films do you like? For example, if you are into some noir, "Night of the Hunter" and "Kiss me Deadly" are winners for you. If you are more of a documentary guy, "The Times of Harvey Milk" and "Crumb" should get you covered. But those are just some examples .

This was a bit reassuring, and basically why I decided to place the order:
Might have to get Videodrome and HOUSE at those prices.

Edit: Wow, I had my eye on a ton of CC blu-rays that were hovering around $20-23 and it seems they've all shot back up to $30 or very near it. Should've bought them when I had the chance.

Just bought 13 Criterions from Deep Discount! Looks like Barnes & Noble won't be getting nearly as much business from me this July as they would have.

I just watched Black Narcissus the other day. While I got into the movie, it would have been a better rental for me instead of blind purchase.

If you bought them from Deep Discount you might not even get your order before July is past... I refuse to EVER buy from them again under any circumstance. Not only do orders sometimes take a couple months, they also sent me the wrong item TWICE. I've ordered from Amazon probably 200 times and never once received the wrong item.

All of Criterion BD sale prices have just changed at Deepdiscount.com. For example, The Night of the Hunter was twenty one and change this morning and now it is thirty two and change.

Now....normally (ahem) this would create pages and pages of personal recommendation lists--

But how silly. We live in the YouTube age now.
And I'm sure Criterion themselves can give you Three good Reasons for just about anything on their catalog.
