I've said it before, and I'll say it again: black and white versions of color movies are gimmicky nonsense.

Agreed. If it's as simple as zapping the color out of the picture, then we'd just turn the color down to 0. Filming B&W is a whole other skill set dealing with depth, light, and shadows. Films shot in color are composed differently.

Red Dragon is merely a decent movie, but I'll watch it over Manhunter ten times out of ten. (And I don't care which movie is closer to the novel. They're movies. Of course there are differences.)

Directors making (non-IMAX) films in 4:3 in the 21st century are pretentious douchebags.

Movies should only be viewed in 9:16.

I like Terminator 3 better than 2 but I also like the extended T-2 better. Terminator 1 is first of course.

I’ll take this a step further and say that Manhunter is not just a bad film, it’s an awful one. I’ve seen it a few times, trying to see what others are so interested about. No dice, it sux.

Like many (but not all) Michael Mann films, it's all style and very little substance.

Shelly Duvall was sexy. I'd take her Astrodome tour any day.

I mean, is he still working? Last thing major I remember him in is getting axed off in the first 5 mins of The Suicide Squad.

Adam Driver is a weird one as I've seen him described as Alan Rickman + Keanu Reeves but I've never seen a Rickman-tier performance from him. That said, I've only seen him in one film that wasn't done by KKennedy, but it might as well have been (The Last Duel).

I won't gainsay you on Jai Courtney, I probably didn't notice how lackluster his performance was in Genisys because of his costar Emilia Clarke's overpowering awfulness. I don't know why her agent decided to make her casting into an 8+ year long meme, but while she herself is richer for it, cinema is much poorer.

Pretty sure that's a popular take on the film.

Not knowing that the film was subject to a boycott at the box office, I saw it, and while I didn't like Mad Max being a supporting character in "his" own film, it seemed like an indictment of "F-anism" because of how ungrateful, short-sighted, and idiotic Furiosa was. Furiosa was the inverse/deconstruction of Auntie Entity.

But then some older folks I know saw the movie, years later, and no amount of rationalizing that it was actually an anti-feminism film could get them past the movie being boring, made by a director who threw Mel Gibson under the bus.

Fury Road is better than Road Warrior.

The newer film is just better everything than the second film

Miller also lets more people have agency in the film and builds a world that's the best it's ever been.

You don't just owe Manhunter your interest, you and the others. No. You owe it awe!

Knowing that they're making a Furiosa spinoff, I do not see it that way . . .

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Miller invited playwright Eve Ensler to act as an on-set adviser. Impressed with the script's depth and what she saw as feminist themes, she spent a week in Namibia, where she spoke to the actors about issues of violence against women
